Assassins Creed Shadows - AC finally (at last) heads to Japan

I've already completed quests and the cutscene briefly acknowledges that. I'd already gotten a statue from a castle before someone asked me to retrieve it.

Edit - level 20 now in Kyoto and still haven't progressed the story enough to unlock Yasuke. I've killed 4 members of some sort of gang and I have no idea what that relates to as I hadn't unlocked the quest to do so.

If it's the gang on the left side of the objective menu then some random NPC randomly revealed who the gang was to me. Though I've already taken out about 4 of them but now have clues of a few more.

Really enjoying it. Level 18 but have just made it to Kyoto. I've only just realised what the Kakurega's are and now started unlocking those as makes it much easier to stock up. Didn't realise you could reset your scouts as well. Will make my life a bit easier.

Had my first... not sure what even to call it, last night. Was minding my own business about to take on a castle but as I was approaching I ran through a fight between some guards and towns-people. Thought nothing of it and started sneaking around on roofs only to get desynchronised (which is weird in a game with no modern day part but whatever) as apparently too many civilians were killed! I dint even do nuffin

No, it was some people in Kyoto on the right hand side.

I finally completed 'Act 1' last night and had 60 mastery points to put in to Yasuke

How are people finding the HDR? I had to change the HDR exposure in the menu to 1.0 to be able to see interiors properly on my LG G2 in HGIG mode.

Ah I've killed a handful of those guys but I don't yet know what organisation they're from. I realised that enemies with little golden crowns (i think) next to their name are usually someone on the objective screen

I'm having the same experience with HDR. The appropriate peak highlights pop through nicely but it feels like overall scene brightness drops off when night time starts.

Got a really nice build going wthr the ninja girl.. Found a legendary armour that auto throws a throwing knife upon assassination at a second enemy in range ... That and I've powered up my throwing knife in the skill tree so I can get double assassination.

Also some armour piercing charms and upgraded the number of throwing knifes to 4...

Absolutely devastating .. I can go round pretty much stealth assassinating whole camps just with my assassins daggar and the throwing knifes!

And throw a cheeky shinobi bell to lure guards out of sight for a good stabbing.

I play hitman WOA a bit so use the shinobi bell like a coin to manipulate guard movements.

Looking forward to trying this game later. Only problem is that it will probably take overnight to download it, so won't be able to play till tomorrow.

How big is it to download on Ubisoft Connect? Most games seem around 100GB nowadays.

Going to upgrade my tanto next to get the dual wield double assassination from height..
And see if that stacks with the throwing knife perk so I can get triple assassination from height?

IIRC its about 130gb , it took me about 3 hours to download on an 80mb connection.. That's also with me working and streaming radio on my other PC.

About 6hrs for me then, definitely an overnighter.

I started downloading it pretty much as soon as it went live, though, so whether the servers were busy and limiting speeds, I don't know, but I seem to remember it being pretty fast data-wise, certainly comparable to downoading from steam, for example.

There's a patch out now aswell.. I think that was like 7 gigs or something.. So I dunno if that patch is now integrated for people downloading the game for the first time or a seperate action.

Really impressed with this. The varied enemy types, some asleep/sleepy/ill, the impact of the seasons (storms are awesome, love watching the rain gather and run off the roofs), the impact it has on the gameplay etc. Starting to get the hang of castles and combat too.

Combined with some frequent chunky patches, it’s why I’ve gone for a 1Gb connection.

Yeah the sick ones are easy to pick off, sleeping guards only tend to happen at night time, and other guards will wake them up if the walk close to them, so it pays to observe the guards walking routes a bit before jumping in blind.

Although I've found you can cheese it a bit - you can jump down, assasinate someone, and then grapple up to a rooftop, go round a roof corner, and go prone, and wait for the the alarmed guards to calm down a bit...rinse and repeat.

The cheesing only really works in 'castles' though, the small camps surrounded by wooden fencing often have very limited cover.

I’ve never liked AC games… until now.

Took a punt on this at £40 and have zero regrets. Runs well maxed out with balanced DLSS at 4k and looks beautiful. Easily one of the best looking open world games I have played and loving the details.

Combat is great as the girl and I got an upgraded legendary Tanto quite early. It let me do a quick stab and retreat that also slows your target. It almost feels like cheating on 1v1s. Only level 10 and just exploring for now but genuinely loving the gameplay and exploration so far.

I also found it runs really well on my 9070 XT system with full detail and FSR4 with Optiscaler. If you get blurring with FSR4, use image output at 4:4:4 sRGB. If you get blurring using DLSS 4, set the NV app to use in game settings for DLSS.

Sounds like I will be picking this up after all, just need to finish up a couple of games first to make room for it. I've got about 20% of KCD2 left to finish, 33% of First Berserker Khazan to finish and Path of Exile 2 update coming up and Age of Wonders 4 Giant Kings update tomorrow. So will make a push to finish up Khazan and KCD2 then pick up AC Shadows
