Assassin's Creed Valhalla

To be fair though, use ships, attack, battle, building your base and moving on, does kind of sum up most action adventure games, theres not an enormous amount more to action adventure games than travel, fight, build, travel, fight , build :)
:)

That's true, but ubisoft seems to be really pushing the same stuff over and over, just to fake / lazy extension of the game. New Watch Dogs (from short reviews) just within 4hrs of gaming has repeated missions...in the same locations

tbh when I saw they had to aim fire arrow at each house, made me think this is so tedious. I need to watch more reviews.
I was hoping to get this as starting game with PS5 but it would be waste of resources.

It's UbiSoft, so did anyone really expect anything other than copy and pasted gameplay in a different setting? Anyone else miss the time when game designers actually had a bit of originality about them?

I'm ok with it, for now at least. As I say, Origins and Odyssey were games of the year for me when they released, so I'm content for the 3rd game in the current trilogy to be a continuation of the same but in a UK setting. The next AC after Valhalla will be the one where I will expect a bit more as it will be the first AC on the next Ubisoft game engine. Overall, still happy with what I have seen of Valhalla and its most likely going to continue the Origins/Odyssey trend and be in the running for my game of the year this year too.

I still dont like that the ships are like speedboats, just as they were in Origins and Odyssey, but I can understand that most gamers dont have the patience to wait while a ship moves at its realistic speeds.

Personally doesn't bother me. Jumping from an absurd height into a haystack isn't the epitome of realism either. Not something I've ever really associated with AC series tbh.

Yeah, dont get me wrong, they were my games of the year, so it didnt bother me all that much, it just felt weird but as I say, can understand that the average gamer would get bored waiting for a ship to drift along slowly

Lol, it did my head in in Odyssey when your ship hit the big waves and slowed down.

God can you imagine, wind changes direction so you can't go the way you want.

Haha i watched a Q&A. The question was how theyve changed combat and they said they have introduced brand new fresh mechanics such as.....dual wielding weapons and.......a stun system........WOW.

They probably meant that the dual wield system is fleshed out now, for example each combination of dual wield has its own sets of unique abilities based upon the combination of dual wielded items, if you have a sword in your left hand and a mace in your right hand you get a totally different set of abilities than if you have the mace in your left hand and the sword jn your right hand.

Which results in Axe/Sword , Sword/Axe, Axe/Mace, Mace/Axe, Axe/Axe, Sword/Sword, Mace/Mace, Axe/Shield, Shield/Axe, Sword/Shield, Shield/Sword and so on, each having their own abilities. I cant think of two many games where there are different abilities if you swap hands with your weapons. Reminds me of Guild Wars where you got different abilities if you held a weapon in your left or right hand.

Finally - 4K 60 footage! (at least bitrate wise, not convinced it renders like that)

Couldn't watch more than a minute before I got dizzy, the viewpoint rapidly jerking around instantly shows the player was using a controller, when playing on a PC it makes no sense and cannot compete with the smoothness of a mouse

I will never understand why companies do reveals and demos and what have you, on consoles. PC games generally look better at highest details, have better lighting, textures and shadows and the gunplay and movement etc looks smoother and more refined with the mouse movement of a PC compared to controllers + aim assist.

So apparently Valhalla has no side quests. You have the main story mission and that's it, any other content in the game is what they call "world events", i.e. you decide to raid a castle

It has side quests, the guy talks about them with the devs on the video I linked (they mention a side quest involving a little girl and her horse), its just that you have to "find" the side quests yourself via exploration rather than having a traditional ? marker on the map which you run to and then on to the next ? marker and the next etc.
