...and a great need to lose some weight (I'm stupidly overweight, 15/16 stone and my "ideal weight" is 11).

I mean, there's no hope is there? Without the willpower to start something and keep doing it.

I need a "get-fit quick" scheme that doesn't involve having willpower/making a super-human effort.

OK it doesn't have to be instant. But it has to be doable by someone with zero willpower.

Any takers?
 
What you're describing doesn't exist unfortunately. If it did, everyone would be doing it!

You've made the first step by understanding that there's a problem. You don't need to start going to the gym 6 times a week and eat only celery to make a change.

The first thing I would do is download the myfitnesspal app and log everything that you eat. You don't even need to change what you eat, just log it and understand what your diet is like. Make changes from there. Insight and understanding what you're doing wrong is the first step to change.

What you need is a heart attack. That's normally enough to scare people in to getting off their backside and doing something. (assuming u survive) Lying in hospital and seeing folk die of what you have is pretty good for garnering a little motivation/will-power.
 
A friend of mine lost 3 stone by going out for a brisk walk on his lunch hour, it did take the best part of a year but not too much effort.
 
Calorie deficit using mostly foods you find palatable, patience, time and preferably some sort of gradual build up in physical activity to increase your total daily energy expenditure so that you can eat more food and lose weight at the same rate as if you were a total potato and had to eat very little. Don't make wholesale changes, just little ones here and there that will build up over time.
 
For me it was all about small changes, gradual positive changes to your diet and being more active will set you on the right path. Once you start seeing those changes reflected on your weight and your waistline that will give you the added motivation to make more incremental changes.

Its not about fad diets and unsustainable changes that make your life miserable, its about trying to change your lifestyle into one that you still enjoy but is healthier for you.

I am the fussiest eater alive, my coordination sucks and when I first made the decision to get healthy I was a 20+stone mess that could barely move. If I can do it, anybody in the world can do it.
 
Find something active and fun that your friends do?

5/6 a side football is great. Local to me they do one for overweight people trying to lose weight. Maybe there is one near you too.
Even things you wouldnt think of. We play dodgeball at my local trampoline park and that is seriously good for sweating off some calories! And you wont even realize you are doing it.

Cut out snacks or change them for fruit/grazing mix.

Cook your own meals. If you cant be bothered to do it every night. Get into meal prep. Set a couple of hours on a weekend and make up a few meals. There are loads of great meal ideas online. Keep the first couple of days in the fridge and freeze the rest.

You have some willpower because you care enough to make this thread.

Stop making excuses or setting dates/times/moments to make a start. Start now!

There's a lot of truth in that. Nothing like a heart attack or cancer scare to make someone change the habits of a lifetime.

Great shout for meal prep! I've found it cheaper, takes no less time over the week and I'm I've lost a decent amount of weight.
 
Cycling is the absolute best way to lose weight and be healthy because it becomes a hobby and something you’ll want to do and get better at, you’ll reduce your calorie intake to improve your cycling, you can join clubs, go on cycling holidays, rides out in scenic areas and when it’s cold miserable and wet there’s always Zwift where you can jump on a social ride with others and even chat with each other through Discord.

Ultimately it’s about finding something you’ll enjoy and for me cycling worked :)
 
Understand the hormonal changes and how-to correct them. That video is a good overview. There's plenty more indepth talks about.
Rather than the trotted out rubbish of eat less move more, which really doesn't help anyone over 99% failure rate with that advise, because you aren't looking at the actual cause and as such aren't solving the actual cause and setting yourself up for failure.

If you want to get nerdy about it you can even get your fasting insulin measured, either try and persuade your GP or medicheck do it for £39.
This will tell you decades in advance of issues, unlike hba1c test, which only show when it's all gone to pot.

Any life style change still requires some willpower, but the mount need can be reduced.

That is along video to state something simple about insulin. Glaucus' conclusions from it it are also not really that straight forward.

Ever seems a professional long distance runner, they look almost emaciated they are so thin. Yet they eat around 3000 calories a day of which 80-90% is carbohydrates and there is minimal fat.

This is why it is absolutely true that adding exercise leads to weight loss. It is not so much the cities burnt (although that can be significant), but the better normal control from aerobic exercise. And it does need to be aerobic and not one of the far HIIT workouts, these are much less effective in lowering insulin.
