Astraweb slowdown on Be Pro

Is anyone else experiencing excessively low speeds from Astra lately? Last night and today, my downloads are struggling to hit 10Mbps (< 1MB/sec). Normally I get 18.x Mbps (2.2 MB/sec) solid, but for about three days now speeds are varying wildly between 3Mbps and 10Mbps, usually settling around 8Mbps.

I've not changed anything at my end (Alt.Binz, Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, Windows 7 x64), and other download sources continue to provide me with 18.x Mbps (or about 2.2 MB/sec) so I know my line itself is OK.

I raised a ticket with Astra 24 hours ago but haven't had a reply :\ If they keep this up, Giga's getting a customer back. Anybody?

EDIT: I'm using ssl-eu.astraweb.com but have also tried ssl-us. The latter does provide an increase over the EU server, but is still far below expected/usual speeds. I've also tried changing between ports (443, 563 etc) but this didn't help either. Definitely seems to be an Astra issue, unless Be have suddenly started throttling NNTP traffic for Pro customers. HTTP and FTP remain at full speed.

I've just looked in this section in case anyone had the same problem. I didn't use astraweb yesterday but there's a big slowdown at the moment for me. Using ssl on eu here too.

Fine for me currently downloading at 5.94 MB/s. I used to have problems with the none SSL severs, switched to the ones below and all is well. Give them a go...

eu.secure.news.astraweb.com
ssl-eu.astraweb.com

Ports 563 European

Maxing out my O2 connection right now @ ~1600 KB/s. Personally I've never noticed any slowdowns.

I'm running 20 connections to ssl-eu.astraweb.com:563 with SABnzbd as my news reader.

Its a bit up and down for me at the moment, was fine earlier today, getting my full 800KB/s now its jumping from 300 - 650.....

The fact some of us are experiencing it and others aren't probably indicates it's a routing issue, I guess? Still no reply from Astra... :(

IIRC there were some problems with Be users having slow speeds on giganews' servers a while back. It was a problem with Be's routing and not giganews'.

I'm on BE Unlimited, 20 connections @ ssl-eu.astraweb.com using Alt.Binz, speeds haven't dropped in the slightest.

Back to normal for me now too, though it did last three days :( Astra finally responded, apologising for the delay and asking me to check it was now fixed, so I'm presuming they found and fixed something.

According to Astra, it was Be's fault. In that case, I wish I'd never left UK Online. Never seen these types of issues before. :(

There was no problem on our end.
In future, when you have internet issues, including slow speeds, you should contact your ISP. We do not govern your speed. Your ISP does.

Either way, I'm not a happy bunny.

Err they said nothing, just that they had no specific faults. Doesn't mean there's an issue with your ISP. It'll just be something to do with the routing which is down to both parties.
