Hello guys,

I have some weird things happening and I have been trying different setups since thursday to set everything up perfectly with no luck so I seek your advice.
Firstly my setup looks like this: I ha e a xonar d2x installed optical cable running from soundcard to the mixamp and my a40 is connected to the mixamp. Now the thing is if I set my primary audio device to speakers with the DD button OFF on the mixamp I get sorround sound perfectly on all channels but character voices and lot of sounds are strangely distorted. Amazingly if I press the DD button on the mixamp ON it just goes stereo.
I tried switching my primary device to the xonar optical spdif. It gives sorround sound ( almost, ill tell you in a sec). No distortion, but in the dolby test demo there is no FLE channel sound. Also same goes for the DD button in the mixamp if its on no sorround if its off there is sorround.
I thought the mixamp should enhance the 5.1 it receives from the soundcard and not revert it lol.
Any help would be appreciated and sorry for the long post but I had to explain for you guys to see whats happening.

P.s: Also the xonar desktop app should be set alright its on 6 or 8 channel same thing and has headphones set and dolby digital live.

Cheers,

Alex

You have two ways of getting Dolby Headphone.

One is get the Mixamp to do it. To do this you want the Xonar speakers to be the sound device. Xonar Desktop app settings to be Dolby Digital Live on, 6 channel, 5.1 speakers.

The other is to get the Xonar to do it. Xonar speakers sound device. Xonar Desktop app settings to be Dolby Headphhone on, 6 or 8 channels, headphones. You could bypass the mixamp entirely at this point and plug the A40s (or any headphones) directly into the soundcard. Or you can send a digital signal (either PCM or DDL) to the Mixamp. Try out all 3 modes (DH1, DH2 and DH3) as they sound a little different.

Why have you gone for both a Mixamp and a Xonar? Do you use the Mixamp with a console or something? Dolby Headphone 2 on the Xonar and Dolby Headphone on the Mixamp should be pretty much identical.

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply, I just got back from work recently :) I will try this out and post my findings. I didn't try setting the Xonar app to 5.1 speakers, I just set it to Headphones as I read a sticky thread on the Astro website to set it up like that.
I went for the mixamp because I heard it does great things with the sounds. Also the voice-game mixer is a cool feature for me as I use teamspeak while gaming every day so it is handy.
Thank you for replying you are the first one :)
I'll report back my findings.

Cheers,

Alex
