Astro A40 Without Mixamp?

tbf, the A40 isn't absolutely crap. It's not great by any means, but is arguably one of the better headsets.

I do agree that a proper can will be miles better, however it may not be financially doable for the OP at this moment in time.

Mixamps are typically associated with consoles and so would hold no benefit over your Titanium HD.
 
Dolby Digital Live (DDL) has nothing to do with headphones. It's just a means of encoding 5.1 over SPDIF / Toslink.

The Titanium HD does have a type of headphone surround but it's not Dolby Headphone (which is what the Mixamp produces when fed a DDL signal). I think the Titanium HD does Creative's CMSS-3D, their own proprieatary headphone surround..

For me, Doby Headphone is much more believable in terms of the sense of space and direction. CMSS-3D does have some technical advantages and some people prefer it.
