Explore and exploit distant worlds in ASTRONEER – A game of aerospace industry and interplanetary exploration.
Explore and reshape distant worlds! Astroneer is set during a 25th century gold rush where players must explore the frontiers of outer space, risking their lives in harsh environments for the chance of striking it rich.

On this adventure, a player’s most useful tool is their ability to shape their world, altering the terrain and extracting valuable resources from planets, and moons. Resources can be traded or crafted into new tools, vehicles, and modules to create everything from massive industrial bases to mobile rover bases.

  • Reshape terrain as though it were made of Play-Doh.
  • Survive on and explore procedurally generated planets that can be entirely deformed and traversed.
  • Build vehicles and travel to new planets and moons.
  • Snap together components and objects to create custom vehicles and modules.
  • 4 player online drop-in/drop-out co-op.

Just spotted this on Steam and thought it looked great! Anyone playing? Some of the videos on youtube make it look like fun and lots of potential.

I only heard about it on Wednesday and watched 2x 2h pre-recorded dev livestreams from their YT channel while messing about in Planet Coaster last night, and the initial excitement i had for it faded somewhat.

I think the issues are lifespan & challenge, at $20 it feels somewhat steep but will hopefully grow into that price range but im interested in it for the coop, and that means $60-80 and 3 others to justify it to, and i dont really know what to think about potential for depth to keep it entertaining beyond the first 2-10hrs, and im not sure what challenges there would be. I didnt play much of Space Engineers, but the start we used to use of the basic platform, grinder & manufacturing machines (iirc) meant the second you arrived you needed to find certain resources simply to stay alive, progressing was a pipedream if you couldnt get fuel to power your suit.
With renewable energy on your suit, free air supply from the lander, no creatures (maybe later on), only hostile plants if you try and vacc them up, and sandstorms... theres nothing to overcome.

I wont use the alpha issues as a stick to beat it with, especially as some of those may now be fixed since those recordings, but the core game feels like it might be very similar to a lot of sandboxy crafty survivaly experiences where its great for a few hours but then feels shallow. I dont know what their aim is long-term to address these concerns, to be fair when they were asked questions they've not gone all Sean Murray and tried selling something they're uncertain of, they seemed very focused on finishing the core game and building upon that from player feedback, and not committing to much beyond that.

interested in this too for the coop aspect only. i wish games would focus on online with 2-5 friends only. i don't need 30 person online games with strangers. i just want to play with my friends and do something. this game looks to have some small amount of potential. hope it gets better soon

Yeah, im more interested in the coop experience, they've said theres no weapons or ways to kill your friends in this, short of pushing them off a height with a vehicle and them dying from the fall. Makes a change from so many games having decent potential but the focus being on PvP which i find rather toxic, and the PvE lacks depth and threat all too often.

I had a go on the free trial on the xbox one. Seems good but the trial only lasted an hour:( I am going to wait on this one, I have looked at the road mp and I will wait till their is more content. Having said that I have £15 in my steam wallet doing nothing...

just watched bikeman play it. definetly not for me just yet. needs way more content. looks promising though

That's my issue with it, like another similar game that came out which I forget the name of. One nights session and everything was done, I understand it's early access but yeah...needs depth, needs a goal or it'll end up being another thing with lots of junk and no purpose.
