Ok... for the past few days i've noticed a very bright, what looks like a star quite a way below the moon and to the right. It appears to be flashing very brightly and when i looked at it through binoculars it appeared to have red green blue lights on it although my mate said he couldn't see them through his pair. Any idea what it is first thoughts where the space station but it hasnt moved at all really. Any ideas???

thanks

I read somewhere on the BBC News site last week that you would see Saturn as the brightest object other than the moon this week, in the approach to the lunar eclipse on Thursday morning. It would be clear enough to see the rings with a telescope. I can't find the article however, so I may have got it all wrong.

This is the best I can come up with. Apart from the moon, mars is the brightest object in that region.

Its the guy who messed up my life I just kicked him of the planet :D. Seriously though I don't know what that could be could be another planet like said above or the dog star.

It's definately not Mars, I've seen it for the last couple of nights (and last week/week before). Mars is visible to the right of the moon whereas this is on the left hand side, so it could be Sirius.
