ASUS 680i SLI Intel

Anyone notice the 590 board has disappeared from OC's shop?

Could be a good sign :D

Hi my first post here..so hello. been readin forum for ages so feel part of this great community.

I've been waiting for ages for nforce 590 ie to come out, ready for my upgrade to C2D E6600 and getting so frustraited waiting and trying to find any scrap of info on the net about this mobo. then I see that the Asus Nforce 590 ie that was on pre-order went to 1-3 days....so I thought great...then I read about this new mobo chipset Nforce 680 i and heard it was to be hard released on the 8th of Nov. I then checked OC's webby and the nforce 590 IE had gone  So the only conclusion i can come to is that Nvidia stuffed up with the northbridge the manufacturers didn't like it kicked up a fuss and the delay has rolled over into the release of the new 680 ie chipset which I hope will not be vapourware like the 590 !
So we'll see tom (8th) if these new boards are released. It's nice that Nvidia and their partner mobo manufacutrers give their customers enough respect to keep them informed ! after all for most people this is the only official option for nvidia SLI aside from NF4.

Fingers crossed.

welcome to the forums :) I'm in exactly the same boat as you! :D But tomorrow’s the big day, it'll either be a day of jubilation or terrible itchy sorrow.

got a feeling it'll be all about the G80 and zip about the motherboard, be nice to be proved wrong though.. Got my popcorn ready and everything :P

It's the 8th - Just what time they will reveal all now :p I have heard 11am PST which is early evening for us.

If i don't hear anything today I think I will just go with either a Asus P5B or a Giga DS3/4 - can't wait much longer for a new system :(

I’m going to try my hardest to exercise patience. My plan is:

If there's a decent 680i mobo that comes out today, and G80 lives up to my expectations (I’ll read reviews/benchmarks etc) then i'll get both.

If G80 lives up to my expectations but there are no good 680i mobos yet. I will wait till December for DFI's uber new one.

If 680i sucks and so does G80, then i'll wait for RD600 i guess.

I wish everyone the best of luck with their near-future upgrades too, whatever you choose :)

The only problem I've got is that there is just no solid evidence these boards exist, at all. At least with the 590 there were reference mobos floating around and some hardware reviews.
I'm bettng we'll be waiting even longer for our nice new Nforce chipset mobo's. I'm not even sure the G80 is real :p But seriously I hate the fact that these companys are using the same tactics as microsoft and sony use with thier consoles, by making it unobtanable they make it desirable....only this time I think Nvidia have gone to far and just plane anoyed all it's potential customers (be on purpose, or just due to a bad product) to the point of buying either RD600 or using intel chipsets and forgetting official support for SLI losing them even more potential custom. So lets hope they can pull thier finger out and give us all a nice suprise today and release both the G80 and the 680 i then I guess i'll be eating my words ! :D

At a guess, its for Nvidia's own Physics card implementation ... similar possibly to what ATI have already announced I.E Use three video cards, 2 in crossfire 1 as a physics card.

That is true :)

The cheaper ASUS 680i looks a lot better, that ROG Striker Extreme is expensive at $399. That saving can be put to use somewhere else where it matters.

*update* A Canadian site says they will have the ASUS Striker Extreme in stock on the 15/11/2006 (4 days away) if they're right, release here could be more imminent than we first thought

TBH I feel uncomfortable getting the asus stryker. Sure the 680SLI seems to be a good performer, but I would prefer to have some proper three way competition with RD600+R600 and 680SLI+G80 and 975 for not just performance but also oc'ing.

The 680 bios though does look amazing with custom set independent memory and FSB settings...I hope the asus has this. I also hope the DFI 680 has esata unlike the dfi RD600.

Given North america gets things earlier I would say end of november for this board in the UK - any word overclockers????

Anandtech's 'gary' says he will be doing a bad axe2, dfi RD600 and asus stryker comparison by the end of november as he has all the boards but is waiting for dfi's NDA to run out afaik. Should be good.

This is perhaps one of the best christmas times in a long time for geuinely decent product launches...expensive, but decent.

Damn you R600 and your lateness!!

had

abit
asus
gigabyte
dfi

tbh Asus wins for me - its what ive been waiting for tbh - may consider the conroe - or hold off for the quad version

Best board I've ever owned was a DFI Nforce 2 Ultra Lanparty board - it was the nuts!

Close second is my current Asus P5WD2.... its taken some massive abuse with first a PD 805 and now my PD 945... but very clockable ....

Gahh, but this RD600 chipset is the last part of the puzzle for my system.... need it soon! :D
