I've just updated my rig and passed my parts onto a mate who is in the process of putting it all together.

The parts are...

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
AMD X2 4800+
Freezer 64
2GB RAM
7800GTX

These bits came straight out of this PC and then shipped, very well packed, via Special Delivery.

The box arrived in perfect condition and all the parts appear fine.

After everything was re-assembled at the other end it all seemed to work fine and even installed windows. But, after booting up windows for the first time it locked up, then the monitor went blank.

When he tried to power the PC up again he got nothing. The PC powers up, all fans start and the light on the motherboard and the pc come on as normal, but it doesn't post, nor does it bleep.

This board has that Post Reporter on it that'll give error messages over the onboard sound if there is something wrong. However, all is quite. No error messages at all.

He's removed all HDD's, GFX and even RAM. Still no errors.

The only there is a error is when the CPU is removed (No CPU Installed).
As soon as the CPU is reinserted, even with no RAM or GFX installed, there are still no error messages.

It's hard to diagnose over the phone, but we've tried all sorts of ram combos.

I have seen a lot of forum threads via google with people suffering the same things, but not one seems to have an answer.

I don't want to start pointing fingers and placing blame as I do belive my mate did things right, however, these parts were working a few days ago.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Had this on my DS3 before RMA, corrupted BIOS and totally dead. I dunno if it was just with my board but I could occasionally get the BootBlock Bios recovery back by hitting the power button fairly rapidly, although it would never succeed even if I had a disk with BIOS on in, you may have different luck.

Any more thoughts on this before I let him know it's probably b0rked and to send it back to me?

As the Post Errors only happen when the CPU is removed and then nothing after I'm assuming there's probably something wrong with the CPU.

I had this problem with an a8n-sli se the other day; system powered up, nothing displayed on the screen or beeps.
I tried disconnecting everything, checking cable and power connectiosn etc, and in the end had to take the mobo out of the case to test the psu for my bros pc
to power it and it worked; put it back together and worked like a charm, dunno if thats any help

Same issue here.. luckily he has an identical spare brand new board lol.

If you found the solution with no display (it actually reported VDA error on the speakers), please post :)

Strange how this thread is near the top of the forum, I was just looking for a thread about what to do if a PC isn't posting.

Without stealing the thread, I think I'm experiencing a similar problem. I've had the Asus A8N 32-SLI for over a year now and suddenly the PC has decided not to POST sometimes. Basically when I turn it on, lights come on, some fans spin, but it may just idle like that. When it boots okay, I hear another fan louder then it POSTs.

Just wondering if anyone sorted it out, is it a motherboard problem what I'm experiencing?

Mine started doing the very same only last week. ( A8N-SLI Normal I think? )

But, to be fair, its been through the wars in what I have done to it...

The NB Fan failed, I swapped it out for a... erm, NB-05-SLI Cooler? - Thermaltake thingy anyway, but even though its an SLI cooler specifically for this Board, it does not work well when I use 2 cards ( 2 x Gigabyte 6800GT ) or rather it does not fit at all cos Im using Zalman 700 Coolers on the cards and I ended up getting a zalman fanless cooler for instead.

I also dropped a screwdriver on the board some time ago, which pretty much killed it stone dead, but a soldering iron, some thin solder and a lot of patience, fixed it.

But now its starting when it wants to and tuns off at random times too!

My MSI Neo4-F also does this, which is a bugger cos I accidentally shorted the FAN HEader near the bottom of the board on its first day and its been like this ever since.

I also have an MSI Neo2 Platinum thats done me proud ( My first ever 64 Bit PC ) but recently I have been unable to install the NVidia Graphics onto it when under XP( 32 and 64 ) or 2K, and in Vista, I instaleld and it ran sweet as a nut but now the Mouse has vanished? - Oh For F....

Hate to admit it, but all my 939 Boards seem to be going through some kind of puberty temper tantrums at the minute.
