Hey guys.

a friend of mine brought down his pc. and a new motherboard and processor he wanted to fit.

as its a fairly simple operation, and as i have done it before - i said i would give him a hand.

the problem i have though, it that once connected the system boots just fine. ut the monitor will not initiate. it just stays blank and flashes.

i read up on the asus forums, which wasnt very helpfull, most just saying make sure you plug in the 4 pin power cord.
which i have done.

so basicly im stuck?
any ideas

thanks

PS

only thing i could think off was that it is a 20pin power cord - rather than a 24 pin.
but readin gthrough the manual it states

that you can use a 20pin power supply as long as it is more than a 300w psu
the one he has in is a 600w

thanks

okay im coming to the conclusion that it may be the psu
as it seems to be struggling (or maybe it just me)

spec.

ASUS A8V-VM
AMD (Venice) Athlon 64Bit 3200+
2x 256mb DDR333 (VData)
600w Magna PSU (17A on +12v) - will mean something in a minute
80gb Maxtor hard Drive
Ati Radeon 7000

why the 17a on +12v rail is important, is that in the manual it says it needs to be at least 15A, which that easierly covers, but reading on the forums it says

One way to ckeck if you Power Supply, Which I think is to small you systems are tipical, is big enough is to unplug everthing that is not requires to Boot to BIOS setup screen. All you should need are motherboard and its fan, minimum memory, keyboard and Graphics cards. That means no Fan,other than CPU and no drives or I/O cards.

If its boots to BIOS get a larger Power one with minimum of 18-20A on each +12v Rail and total of over 30-35A +12V’s.

BTW - i couldnt get it to boot - by taking everything - but the essentials out

i have also noticed that no matter which way i place the power switch, reset switch, led and speaker cables, none of them seem to work.

thanks again for the help

well, glad somebody thought of that -

saved myself a trip to the shops.

tried my psu.
which would easierly power it, with the same result.
so my question now is.

what the hell?

what you guys think
faulty board
faulty cpu.

also any ideas why the, power switch/reset/light arnt working.
not sure if the speakers working

thanks again

Is your setup a 939 one ? Are you both pci-e ? You've done it with power supplies, try your graphics card in his rig, if that doesn't work, try your cpu.

Have you another pc to try the monitor on or maybe not having reread the first post ? If it isn't working woth the onboard graphics then could bt cpu or mobo.
