Asus aftercare, PB278Q replacement monitor is such a joke its untrue!

Thanks for the heads up on this, I had no idea and was considering going with Asus for my next monitor and motherboard, now I'll look elsewhere.

/Me wonders which Asus competitor the last 4 posters work for.

Ha! I didn't mean to come off sounding like a PR spammer but I've been genuinely trying to decide between Asus or Gigabyte for my next mobo and an Asus or Benq when gsync monitors eventually arrive. if I'm going to part with my money for some new tech I want to know the company is going to be good to deal with if there is a problem so it's helping to sway my decision.

I work for a software company. I have no affiliation to any hardware manufacturer.

I admit that the Asus PB278Q was not my first choice. I got through two Iiyama XB2779QS monitors in one week at Christmas. Both RMA'd. Both with terrible backlight bleed. I didn't want to use my old DGM IPS-2701 any longer because of the many dead pixels so I went for the Asus. I hope (and expect) it will be more reliable than my DGM and the Hazro before that.

Was a tongue in cheek comment btw as the 4 replies in a row looked like the PR shills on imdb, etc.

Other people have good experiences with Asus boards but personally I've not had much luck with them, my last one I took a hammer to after 3 rma replacements died within a short time of each other (all refurbs by the looks of it even though they claimed the last one was brand new) I've stuck with gigabyte since.

I don't have any real experience of Asus monitors to comment much there but while benqs are well built I'm not a fan of their "signature" image of overly bright and vivid at the expense of viewing comfort or finer details (horses for courses though).

EDIT: To be fair something I forgot to mention earlier but meant to - I use a lot of other Asus products which I've never had any problems with I just seem to have really cursed luck when it comes to their motherboards.

Asus have offered me a brand new replacement unit as well after getting 3 defective refurbished displays in a row.

I think for the sake of the company they need to rethink their RMA process and ditch LetMeRepair...

Straz

Let us know if your brand new replacement is coming from LetMeRepair as well, you should get an email once it's been handed over to DPD and that will say where it's coming from.

A quick update.

Today I've received a brand new replacement monitor, it looks like it's come direct from Asus in a full retail box with the security seal intact.

I'll check it out later as I'll be out for most of the afternoon.

Thanks Asus

Good result in the end, shame you needed to jump through so many hoops though and it's not likely they're going to change their default process off the back of your experience.

Nice matrix glad it was resolved, unfortunately they are out of stock on new units so I'll have to wait a few days I imagine. As long as its defect free I don't mind tbh.

Thanks Straz

Ive set up the monitor and used it for about 30mins, firstly its definitely brand new as you can tell from looking at the monitor, its still got the stickers on around the edge of the bezel and the protective plastic around the outer edge.

This monitor has zero light bleed from what i can see, i set it to a solid black background and i can't see any obviously light coming through, it appears to be jet black. I can't see any obvious dead pixels either.

Touch wood, its a good monitor, hopefully Asus will do something about LetMeRepair UK as from what ive experienced its them that are giving Asus a bad name by sending out appalling warranty replacements.

Hope you get a brand new one as well Straz and everything goes smooth for you, keep all your current cables and power lead as thats what Asus instructed me to do, the new one came with cables anyway so you'll have a couple of spares which is no bad thing.

It's not unusual for Asus to have a package picked up, unpackaged, I had a 24" monitor completely die a few years ago, and I had the same instructions about don't pack the monitor, make sure I send the stand. I thought it was odd, so made sure I had the box at hand just in case, but when the courier showed up, he came with an empty blue plastic box, that was foam lined. he packaged the screen and stand. He then had me sign a receipt, and proof of a numbered tag, then he put a copy in the box, closed it up, clipped on the tag, scanned the tag and off he went.

Within about 2 weeks a new monitor, of a better spec arrived perfect. From A to B, their service was nothing but flawless, but then it was a few years ago, things sound like they've taken a bit of a nose dive.
