ASUS confirms IvyBridge compatibility for Z68/P67/H67/H61 motherboards and PCI-E3.0

tbh I was thinking the same. DO NOT WANT a daughter board !!! I like the look of my Maximus as it is, do not want fugly things sticking out of it.

That said at the end he didn't really clarify it. He just said we will be releasing a bios update to make them compatible. So is that compatible with a fugly daughterboard, or compatible with the mobo on its own.

Edit: after watching the video again, I think that daugther board is basically what would be a "graphic card" capable of using, PCI-e 3.0

I bet by the time IvyBridge is released, Gigabyte and Asus will launch new boards with a fully integrated PLX chip just like MSI have done 2 months ago!

Waste of time anyway, OCZ RevoDrive3 240GB PCI-E SSD - £461.99  too expensive for me at the moment anyway.

Probally be through the next generation or two that it will maybe be more affordable to Mr Average pay packet.

tbh I doubt that Revo drive SSD's will come down in price (by a fair margin) anytime soon. The tech used for SSD is being used everywhere at the moment, for macbook airs, iphones, most tablets have them and small netbooks. Its in high demand at the moment so I honestly can't see prices on it coming down anytime soon.

I mean just look at SSD's their prices are still pretty damm high.

With regards to the thread though reading that ASUS link in OP. It would seem my Maximus will be able to use the 22nm tech for IB CPU but no PCIe3.0. But pfft who needs PCIe3.0 at the moment.

A lot of boards are listed as supporting Ivy Bridge but if you bought one of the "better" Asus boards with SLI compatability then they don't support PCI-E 3.0.

Pay more, get less :(

They'll support it in the primary lane.
Lanes controlled by NF200 obviously can't
And those using switches incapable of it obviously can't either.

Its simple I thought.

Gen3 board has the new switches so you get 8X/8X @ PCI-E3.0

The really cheap boards that don't have switches and offer 16X/4X get a full 16X @ PCi-E3.0 for the top slot and 4X PCI-E3.0 for the second slot.

The boards with the older PCI-E switches get 8X PCI-E3.0 for the top slot and remain at 8X PCI-E2.0 for the second slot.

Boards with NF200 chips etc are screwed.

I think that daughter board is just for testing/R+D

generally speaking all the 1155 motherboards that will support ivy bridge will get PCI-E3.0 in the 1st slot as that is done by CPU.

any second or third slots won't unless it has some special switches which is where MSI/ASrock g3/gen3 motherboards come into it.

thats how I see it atm

So, do we know when these boards (I am looking at you V-Pro/GEN3) will be made available for sale in the UK?

I do not seem to be able to find this information...

Probably don't want MSI jumping all over them, for good reason too.
As my Maximus IV Extreme would only get 1 PCIE 3.0 lane.

At least, that's how it should work. The first lane is direct to CPU, it's the Ivy Bridge that brings PCI-E 3.0

This is quoted from that ASUS link in OP

Current non-SLI LGA1155 motherboards from ASUS can also take advantage of PCI Express 3.0. The list below details the minimum BIOS version that adds support for next generation Intel 22nm processors.

[Available model list with future 22nm CPU ready]
Maximus IV Extreme-Z

So the and the Maximus IV Extreme-Z is not on the PCIe3.0 ready list. So I make from that that your and my Maxiumus will not support PCIe3.0 at all just the IB CPU.

Least thats how I read it from the website... :(
