** ASUS DO IT AGAIN: IPS, 144Hz & FREESYNC!!! **

But which is better freesync or g-sync?

Surely they could do something driver side to improve the experience or is it all hardware/firmware side ?

According to some reviews so far Freesync suffers from a bit of ghosting.

I hope this turns out to be a good one as I really do have my heart set on the top tier single GPU from AMD's 300 series and this monitor come July/August :)

I think you mean the "monitors" suffer from ghosting right?

As for whether or not Freesync is what caused ghosting (which it in itself has been a long occurance on random monitors (even before these sync tech came along), I'd reserve judgement waiting for proper review from dedicated monitor review sites, as the person doing the review on the general hardware review sites probably know not much more than us when it comes to monitors, and while they can see if there is a problem for the display, it doesn't mean the they have the techinical knowledge to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem, and Freesync would be a easy candidate to blame when doing guess work.

But the funny thing is the now that even Asus has brought out a Freesync monitor (out of nowhere), Samsung's offerings still nowhere in sight, despite it's been announced so far back...

With 144Hz and 2560 res IPS display at under £500, Asus might as well call it "ROG Swift Dominator" lol

But still, it's more than I would like to spend on a new display...I need it to drop down to at least £450 before I could consider getting one.

Good luyck with AMD and drivers ;) :D

lmfbo!!!!!!!!

Honestly never had a problem with AMD drivers and I've been using them since 2006, Just wish they would release them more frequently like Nvidia do for game releases.

Stupid question, but if you have an Nvidia GPU, is a Freesync monitor pointless? Will it work, or MUST you have GSync?

Freesync for the moment only works with AMD.

It could theoretically work with Nvidia as it's an open platform i.e actually a part of Display Ports specs but it's Nvidia so I doubt they will ever support it because then there would be no need to charge £100-£200 more for their G-Sync module equipped monitors because then we could just use the cheaper and on par Freesync monitors.

I find it silly that these monitors only support certain GPUs but that's competition for you :p

I'll just wait for a normal 1440p 144HZ IPS monitor that supports any GPU.

I have faith that all of these apparent Freesync issues will be resolved eventually. Especially if it's adopted within Displayport or something, and all GPU manufacturers start supporting it.

As for the monitor, it looks great! At the moment, the only thing I'd take over it is a 24 inch version. I'll probably pick one up when these start appearing.

This is just that, with the addition that if you have an AMD GPU, you can use Freesync too :)
