ASUS MARS BAR

Listen OP, even if some people came across as childish and the like, essentially, we were all trying to help.

You may be able to afford 2 of these cards, others might even be able to, by making a few sacrifices for a month or two.

But, just because you can afford it, and it's the most expensive, that doesn't automatically mean it's the best. With DX11 around the corner, and new cards from Nvidia and ATI, your cards may not cut the latest games. My personal advice would be to get a 4850 or something, and then buy the best nvidia dx11 card when it arrives. Or, if you really must, buy the mars cards, and then upgrade to the best new cards.

EG: I love the pc80 armoursuit case, I posted a question about it a year ago, which also involved a thermaltake watercooling kit. Now my question was solely to do with the case, and yet people told me forget the thermaltake, it's pants. So here Iam, a year later, I still don't have the case, but if I were to get a new system, I'm getting a custom kit

:)

Well then, I strongly urge you to consider the advice given by people. Some of them are seasoned pros :)

I agree - lots of snide or confrontational remarks that really aren't needed - way too many small minded people on the internetz.

but to be honest, I don't think any of the remarks were intended to be nasty. also you have to remember that times are troubled and not everyone can afford expensive graphics set ups.

Although, had you listened to and accepted the advice given, this thread would have not gone on long enough to cause any remarks that were unwanted.

Post #7 by cmndr_andi gave relevant, reliable advice on your proposed purchase. So this thread could have been closed within 3 hours of opening.

Or you could have posted the thread in the customer services section where it should have been in the first place.

wether you are a rich guy or not buying the mars is a waste of cash because there are new dx 11 gpus on the horizon that will outperform it......even if you do buy the mars for all that expensive money it will not be the best,if i was spending that amount of cash on a gpu then i would want the best...if it was 12 months until the new dx 11 gpus come i would say buy the mars(and even then its a waste of cash bang for buck)but the new dx 11 gpus are not to far away, just stick with what you have for now.....as OBI WAN KENOBI said....Patients!!;)

You will be glad you waited in the end,i know i would;)

Smart seriously don't blow that sort of cash on those cards you will get a better deal by being a bit patient and if you cannot wait get ordinary 295's the mars is not worth it anymore. Dx11 cards are out soon and despite one member that insists there is no point there have been announcements of dx11 games that will be coming. If i spent 2k on gfx cards and then couldn't play a game in 8 months to max i would cry so save the cash wait and see what the coming months bring as we know new gen cards are close.

Ignore the haters thats natural on here and anywhere else you ask for advice when you have lots of money to spend ;)

What screen size you planning to use?? Reason I ask is that unless its a 30" monitor or bigger @ 2560x1600 or higher you are 100% wasting your money as games will not see any noticeable FPS benefits below or even @ 1920 x1200. This is because these cards only deliver full power @ ultra high resolutions so you will pay a lot of money for something which is not going to give you any noticeable benefits above a single GTX295.

If I were you just buy a single Mars (if you must as a std GTX295 is almost identical FPS wise anyway) then see who you go with that before considering another card. Also you will obviously need a seriously high end PSU so consider the most expensive and reliable you can get. Another thing to consider is that 2 x 4096MB gfx cards may have issues with installing the OS as MS are unlikely to have made allowances for such a config yet and previous OSes on some cards with high vram were troublseome on some brands of motherboard due to the way it allocates (or not) the card resources.

You do realise that having 4096vram will not make much difference FPS wise as most games are designed to flush ram between levels and load into memory from disk so high end SSD's like Mtron would be a better and faster way to go gaming!

I love how this thread has reached 5 pages with most posts insulting the original poster. Says a lot about the people on here.

If i had all 1000 of these cards and asked who here wants one or even 2 for sli as a free gift all those people saying dont get one would be the first saying yes please can i have 3.They either dont have the money or dont want to spend the money but they all for sure would want the card.Throwing insults at people who have better kit happens all to often here im afraid.

It's the internet and you will always get people who prefer to spend their time having a go rather then saying something positive. Way i look at it even if you think a question\thread is silly doesn't mean your answer\reply to it has to be.

I think it is safe to say that we all agree that buying two of these cards would be a massive waste of money for the op and even buying one over a standard 295 is questionable in terms of being worth it. But at the end of the day it will be his system and he will be the one using it so he in the end must go with what he is happiest with no matter what anyone else says :).

I still advise waiting and seeing what comes out in a few months and then splurging if you have that cash burning a hole in your pocket right now i would just buy a decentish card to carry you through till then.

If you don't think the new cards are much cop i gaurantee you'll still be able to buy two mars cards as i don't think they are selling very fast but i may be wrong on that.

Oh get over yourself.

Yes if we had the chance, that much expendable cash or as severe brain as the op OF COURSE WE WOULD GET ONE! They are stupidly powerful cards!

However, as many people have said, you would have to be clinicaly insane to spend 2K on graphics cards that will not be worth anywhere near that in about 6 months and won't even be able to run the next generation games at full potential because they are DX10.

You would be MUCH better of waiting for the DX11 cards and spending maybe 1K on 2 of the top end versions of those and get more card for your money.

Not all all. Plenty of people on here have much better kit than myself, but it doesn't mean I automatically think they're idiots.

In this case, 2xMARS cards is just rediculously bad bang for buck - and I'm not saying that because I'm jealous. I'm perfectly happy with my current setup, and trying to give someone some geniune advice - imo, and the opinion of most people on here, two of these cards is just a complete waste of money. If you were to compare fps/£ with other cards available, they'd be absurdly low on the scale.
