Recently upgraded from a P5K Premium to the Asus Maximus II Formula for various reasons. I am so pleased with the board that I whacked it in my case the minute I got back from work!!

Within an hour and a half (had to be careful coz I got a watercooling setup), the board boots up first time!! Whoo hoo!! Updated the bios to 1901, Windows Vista kicks in. Update all the inf drivers for this board.

Now here's my issue. I'm running a QX6800 B3 revisioin at stock speed = 2.93GHz. Asus Probe II, Core Temp and Real Temp report my CPU temperature is 23 degrees at idle, and 30 degrees under load.

On the P5K Premium, I was getting 33 degrees idle and 42 under load. The CPU is cooled via waterblock (Swiftech GTZ). I know I got a new board but I'm almost certain that the current temperature reading is false...

it could be or your old one was, did you get rid of the old heat paste when you changed ? could be possible that you mounted it better than you did last time... it does happen lol

I removed previous thermal paste (Artic Silver) from both CPU and waterblock and applied some OCZ Freeze Extreme.

The four bolts on the waterblock can only be tightened to a certain tightness, where I have done till bottomed out in both situations... so confused...

I have the same M/B as you.

If core/real temp are reading the same I would suggest that they are correct.

Asus probe CPU temp is always 10c lower than core temp on my rig.

Hmm... I reseated my CPU and re-applied thermal paste out of pure curiosity... No change.

As much as I would like to believe, and because I have a fan controller, I do have an analogue and digital thermal sensor attached to the water block. On idle, they both report 33 ~ 36 degrees.
