ASUS RT-N56U Black Diamond Combines High Speed Network Performance and Unique Design in Style
The revolutionary new ASUS RT-N56U is the most advanced wireless router available, challenging tradition by dramatically exceeding all expectations. This stylish network enabler combines a series of cutting-edge and powerful technologies to offer you an ideal internet and wireless package, complete with striking design.

Dual-band for Lag-free Entertainment
Double your wireless performance and bandwidth with simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands speed up to 300Mbps concurrently. While basic internet applications like browsing or file downloading can occur in 2.4GHz, wireless HD content streaming takes place in the 5GHz band at the same time, so both achieve optimized speeds and you enjoy smooth, buffer-free HD content streaming.

Gigabit Internet Surfing with Hardware NAT
Equipped with a capable hardware NAT acceleration engine and built-in Gigabit Ethernet, it gives you full Gigabit internet performance, making its WAN to LAN throughput up to 2-5 times that of traditional software-based NAT Gigabit routers.

Powerful Online Multitasking at up to 300,000 Data Sessions
Support for a massive data pipeline of up to 300,000 data sessions means the RT-N56U has around 20 times the networking capacity of other high session routers, so multiple data transfer jobs don't slow down even during heavy load.

Plug-n-surf and Hassle-free Management
ASUS EZ UI offers you an intuitive router setup without read manuals. What's more, you can enjoy simultaneous printing and scanning by connecting an All-in-one printer to the router via the USB port. Also connect external hard disks to enjoy instant file sharing with family and friends!

Ai Radar Optimized and Reliable Wireless Coverage
This unique and efficient design drastically increases wireless signal coverage and quality without increasing power consumption. It intelligently adapts beam patterns to local conditions to enable higher-gain directional signal emulation. Ai Radar shapes signals to offer the strongest possible output, transforming what may be a weak omnidirectional signal to a stronger unidirectional one, improving throughput at same time.
Others blast signals everywhere, leading to signal loss. ASUS RT-N56U locks the wireless clients to provide dedicated and stable signals.

Getting cable at my flat finally this weekend so will be having one of those routers.

Q - anyone know if PCI-E wifi NICs are better than USB, latency-wise? Of course they will be on paper but I want to know if there's any real-world difference.

That router looks rather tasty, especially as I suspect when VM double our speed I'm going to need a new router:) (not to mention the gigabit networking would be handy).

How good is the USB-N53?

Good enough for online gaming?

without a doubt. obviously, wireless is not incredible for gaming but it is certainly good enough for those who have no option to go wired.

If you have to use wireless, this is the best you are going to get :)

The N56U is a fantastic value router. The features it has are going to be well above and beyond the reaches of an ISP issued router.

If you are buying now, the N56U is the one to go for for a cable connection.

It might be worth waiting for this one though, I assume OcUK will be getting it in stock once it's released in the UK in the next few weeks.
RTN66U

as soon as the N66U is in stock at distribution, it will be live on our site.
the N56U is still going to be a current model and will be ran alongside the N66U

Hmm, was going to get the n56u. Think I'll read up on the 66u before buying. Getting a but fed up with rebooting the old netgear when we want to use the wifi on our phones.

Been running the N56U for a few months now, and have got nothing but praise for it. Range is very good and can even keep a signal through a thick wall, an exterior wall, forty foot of garden, and then into a brick built garage.

I previously had a WRT-610N which was excellent and the Asus is as good, if not better. The only issue I have with the Asus is it can only set internet access times for the router, rather than for individual MAC addresses (so if I want my teenager's Xbox to lose the internet at midnight, I have to lose it on my PC too). Other than that, the Asus is as good in every respect and the USB connection to my 1TB external drive - which acts as a cheap NAS - is actually better than the WRT as it is more reliable.

Our router runs my PC, my HTPC, two media centre extenders, my son's gaming PC, 2 Xbox's, 2 laptops, a Wii, a wireless printer, and 4 smartphones. Couple that with the kids spending 24/7 on-line gaming (when they're not at school), our routers never get an easy time and both Belkins I had used to fall over at least once a day. It took me almost 2 years to burn out my WRT-610N and the Asus is looking another one that is up to the job.

Honestly, can't recommend any other routers higher at the moment for a cable connection.

Tempting as my Stock Sky Router seems to be getting worse for latency and stable connection in STO and SWTOR lately :( and my parents don't seem to understand my need to put Ethernet all the way up to my room in the loft :( :P

Interesting..

I have a Linksys 610N running DD-WRT and it has been rock solid, my only criticism is the range of the signal, it drops off extremely quickly - would you say the Asus has better range???

Never did any tests unfortunately to say definitely one or the other. The thing on the 610N (v1) that finally gave up the ghost was the wireless, it became impossible to hold a connection long enough to do anything without dropping even though all the wired connections were still perfect. I do remember a few months before the end of the Linksys that my phone said it had WiFi in the garage but it couldn't actually open the OcUK forum page when I selected it, had to come half way up the garden for it to open. With the Asus I can open the forum in the garage (same phone) as if I'm standing in the next room to it. The problem I have is I cannot say whether this is due to an improvement in range over the Linksys , or if that was an early indication of ailing WiFi on a two year old, hard used Linksys at the time.

Sorry Edgedemon, apart from saying I've had no noticeable issues with the range on either, can't really say more than that from my experience. :(
