Asus or Gigabyte?

Both are pretty good, (asus p6t deluxe v2 here), regarding the two boards youve linked. The gigabyte ud7 is a sata 6gbps usb 3.0 board, the p6td is a slightly older sata 3gbps usb 2.0 model. The direct asus competitor to the ud7 is this.

Boards from either vendor will have no problems clocking an i7 930, personally i opted for asus as im familiair with their bios layout, having upgraded from a p45 p5q deluxe.

Thanks for the reply, agreed about the bios point, making overclocking a less stressful moment.

Thanks once again.

If I was spending that type of money I would want USB3 and SATA6 included, which that particular Asus board doesn't have, the Asus P6X58D E or Premium are worth a look, I have the "E" with a 930 @ 4.2GHz...

The (X58A) UD7 is a lot of money, are there any features on it that you need, if not maybe the (X58A) UD5 would also be worth a look...

Wow - Seriously, neither of them...get the P6X58D-E!

Totally agree, im so glad i got my one. Its basicly the premium one, without the full heatpipe, lacking dual giga Lan, but has a better sata 3 controller that allows raid, where as the premium dos'nt.

And that extra heatpipe is'nt needed, my mobo has not gone over 40c yet.

Is there somthing on those premium motherboards that make them worth there price tag that the Gigabyte X58A-UD3R doesn't offer?

I could never justify to myself spending near £300 on just a motherboard if all I was using it for was gaming and entertainment.

Fancy chipset cooling and extra power phases with no proof that they actually help with anything, oh and you tend to get a 2nd Ethernet port. Hardly worth the extra cost IMO.

One thing to watch out for on the P6x58 is the spacing on the pcie slots. The board has three of them, but they only have one slot between each. If you are looking to use crossfire/sli you can only realisticly use the top and bottom slots (limiting you to x16/x8 speeds, rather than x16/x16). If you want to use all three they'd better be single slot cards (or replace the standard dual slot cooling with a water block).
