Asus or who for to replace the poor ISP supplied router

Currently with BT on Infinity 2 and looking to move to Vodafone......mainly due to the costs.
I know that the Vodafone supplied router is crap, what do you recommend without breaking the bank?

I also wish to use a VPN so something that I can put VPN settings into rather than all my devices (if possible). Asus seem to get good reviews and can use VPN settings too, any good for my purpose?

You can't go wrong with Asus, especially running something like Merlin firmware.

I'll have to do some research as been a long time since I used my own router. Think it was a Netgear DG834G, used the ISP supplied units since.
