Just a quick question regarding folks CPU temps who may have this board running with a Conroe or similar. What temps are you getting?

I was idling at 60c with the setup in my sig, this after changing from the Gigabyte DS3 board where I was getting 35c.

I removed and reseated the heatsink with some AS5, and they're a little better at 55c, but I'm still a bit worried!

I'm thinking though, that as everything else in my rig is the same, and just the mobo has been changed, that it could be a mobo/bios thing?

MBM/Asus Probe II/Bios and Speedfan all say the same, although that's not really surprising me as I think they all use the bios reading to report the temp?

Is there any other way of really finding out what's going on?

Thanks in advance.

Yep, running 213 now.

Highest load temps I've seen running dual 32mb Super PI etc is 66c.

I'm not sure that's anything to worry about, but I'm still thinking it's being reported high, or at least I hope it is!! :)

I've just put my finger on the Northbridge passive heatsink, and it's pretty hot!

I'm thinking its proximity to the CPU socket has got to be having an effect on the temps being reported, as if the heat is 'soaking' along the PCB?

I've just wiggled the heatsink on the CPU whilst it was running (it moves a couple of degress either way), and my temps are now 45c...

I must have installed this heatsink about 20 times now over the last few months changing kit about etc, but maybe I did **** it up somewhere along the lines this time?!

EDIT: Maybe it was because the side of the case was off, which would suggest airflow, but it's the same setup as before, just the mobo...

this is a long shot but i know it has happened on mine, and a mates ASUS mobos causing rather high temperatures ( 58-64Degs on my Pentium D930 and 66Degrees On His Athlong 64 3700+ ).

There is a utility called Q-Fan on ASUS board which adjusts the CPU fan speed to the loading of the chip.. however in my experience it doesnt do it very well..

I know my P5PL2 Mobo is miles from yours ( I want P5B :P ) but i think this may help..

Enter the BIOS .. Got to "POWER" .. go to "HARDWARE MONITORING" then change the "CPU Q-FAN" to "DISABLED" , reboot and see how it goes :) certainly took my CPU down 10Degrees)

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the tip Nomisf.

I went to the bios and disabled the Qfan thing, and it has reduced the temps. Currently loading at 51c, idling at 42c.

Only problem now is my ears are being assaulted by a screaming CPU fan!!

There only seem to be 4 modes for the fan (if you include off!) which run at the following rpm on my board:-

Super quiet - 667rpm

Optimal - 997rpm

Performance - 1100rpm

And then of course there's off - 2750rpm

There seems to be a bit of a jump between performance and off, and I seem to remember my old board ran the fan at around 1300rpm most of the time, which is probably a good compromise between quiet and ear bending...

I'll hook it up to a fan controller I reckon.
