I have just tried to run the Asus Auto Update to reflash my BIOS to the latest version.

It failed...

Now, I can't boot my PC at all....

Suggestions please??

How does the returns process work at OCUK?

I have had the board for about 3 weeks (so within 28 days) - does it just get exchanged??

If the BIOS flash has failed your warranty is invalid.

I used the Asus Auto Update - I don't see how that makes me lose my warranty, if their software isn't working properly...?

Doesn't matter. Flashing BIOS isn't covered by warranty. I've flashed tons of devices, luckily no bricks but it's a risk...if it happens just have to lump it.

edit that's if your board is dead, apparently new Asus boards have recovery method, press something during boot and insert CD supplied with motherboard ?

Thanks, I'll look into that - not seen it mentioned anywhere in the manual.

That will be a very tough pill to swallow... if I can't RMA it.

they usually have the sentence "you carry out this firmware flash at your own risk" in big letters or something along those lines before it will let you flash

Tip for the future: never let an auto update program flash the bios.. more reliable to download it and boot to it on a floppy and flash it tbh...

Indeed, lesson learnt - I don't have a floppy or a USB drive though, hence the Auto Update 'attempt'.

Oh well...

why not use the asus crashfree bios feature - you will find the instructions in your manual

My screen won't power up, so I can't see if it's actually working or not...

The led on the DVDR drive suggests that the drive is inactive though... :(

Anyone else have any ideas??

i mate

I had one problem exactly like that: after bios update with Asus update tool( to 1101 bios-last one i think) ,the pc does not boot anymore

I change my Ram Ballistix PC2 5300 ( who runs at 2.2V)for one generic stick of 512 MB PC2 6400 ( who run at 1.8V) and them the sistem boot again

then I enter the bios, change the DDR ram settings again - for the ones the B allistyx " like" - and then I swap the generic ram to balistyx and the pc is running rock solid after that

when you do the bios update, the timmings of the ram and other settings in bios changes - so if the Ram does not like that changes the PC does not boot at all!!( like a dead pc)

try another type of ram if you could and see if that does the trick :)

Sounds like thats worth a try netby - thanks. I have some old stuff in my Dell XPS, so I'll give that a try when the 30 minute 'test' is completed :)

I'll go and get a USB first thing tomorrow, and give that a whirl

At worst, do you think Asus would send me another BIOS chip??
