ok first issue with board, (i dont have the deluxe btw, just the vanila but ive been told its all the same) basically ide chanels have a jmicron chipset, not true ide

this causes things like linux impaired to install, luckily xp did, but in xp i cant write discs. This is bad because i found that fedora core 6 is the only working linux distro, ive downloaded it, try to put it onto disc and starts fine with nero, get so far and then says that there is a problem, its not discs or the iso, i tired lots of differnt discs on lots of different iso, all doesnt work. anyone know ways round this anyone else haveing same issues, i want help plz :(

yes ive heard, i have the new bios so still problem, ive looking at buying a sata to ide connector that would go straight into the back of the cd-rw, and then into a sata port on my mobo, would this solve the problem by completly bypassing the jmicron utility

Not sure that the SATA/PATA converters are good or bad, esecialy with linux.

the problem is very well documented on the usual Linux forums, and seems to affect lots of Intel boards now.

i guess you should look at buying a new Sata DVD-RW.

well i ordered a converter was only a fiver off ebay so it will either do the job or it wont,

i only really need the cd-rw in linux to install after than i can just play about with it

but if it does fix my writing problem then great fiver well speant :D

keep me posted on this one please as i'm having the same annoyance with my dlx p5b! if the converter works it may be worth me investing, i swear i have had the dvdrw drive writing in the past with my p5b deluxe but done so many reformats since (due to swithching back and forth from vista to xp)

well from what i have heard the jmicron has caused a huge problem with loads of owners, i even heard statements of a conspiracy where intel are promoting the death of ide, lol, have you noticed how sata dvd-rw have increased loads over the past while. would that be happening if dedicated ide channels where around !!!!

ocuk do stock sata dvdrw drives! by the way i've just fixed my problem went into device manager and uninstalled the jmicron sata raid controller and rebooted letting windows configure it and hey presto instant burning! all my problems solved!

well windows re-recognized it, installed drives, but now windows doesnt even see it as a -rw drive so its completly screwed now lolol. Well hopefully my ide to sata converter thingy will come soon perhaps tomoro if lucky. And if all goes well completly bypass the jmicron issue :D
