I recently put together a new pc and am on my second installation of windows (first didn't end up to happy....) anyway all is now well on that front and i am back to were i started with installing the mobo software

Except that now with the benefit of hindsight i'm not going to blindly install everything, i have a couple of questions around these programs sorry if there basic but all this is a new frontier to memy old dell pc had exactly zero mobo programs...

The intel chipset inf update program? what is this and what does it update?

The EPU 6 engine, last time i installed it i got a nice plane on my taskbar, if i slected the rocket is said 3% freq overclock or something, yet when i checked the windows system in the performance tools bit my processer speed was unchanged?, is it worth putting the epu engine on there or is just a gimmicky piece of software that has little real purpose?

The Intel chipset inf update just has the latest drivers for the chipset, things like the USB ports, internal system bridges etc.. Get them installed to get rid of any Unknown devices in Device Manager.

The SixEngine stuff I didn't bother with but you do end up with an Unknown device in Device Manager for which I simply selected update driver and then pointed it towards where I had unpacked the SixEngine software. If you want to overclock the CPU then do it in the BIOS and after you've finished re-enable SpeedStep to get the CPU to clock down when idle.
