Hi All,

I have an asus P5Q Pro board, and want to ask the following:

the sata controllers 1-6 are all on the intel ICH9R controller but the 7 and 8 sata are on a SIL controller.

Is this just for drive expert or EZ backup to do their thing or can I put drives on these last two and use them as normal?

I've got a raid setup on controllers 3-6 and two burners on 1 and 2.

I'd like to put a 1TB drive into 7 for backups/ music/ and general junk.

Thanks in advance.

You should be OK, turn off the drive expert thingy and enable the IDE controller to enable the SATA ports. Generally the performance will be slightly slower the the Intel but if it's for backups then this shouldn't matter.

that's brill, many thanks! yes, speed isn't important on this, i've got a velociraptor raid array on the intel one so that's fine.

I've got an adaptec controller card as well, but in order to flash the bios and things i need to create a floppy disc, so I think i'll just wait till they come into the new centuary and create a decent installer as I've had no problems with the onboard intel so far.

It's ICH10R isn't it? And no need to flash the BIOS, go to one of the later pages in BIOS (can't remember which) and change Last Setting to Mode Change. It gives you instructions, choose normal mode.

miniyaz, thanks for that, and you're right it is ICH10R.

Brilliant, so i'll just put the vista drivers for the controller on a stick and i'm good to go!

many thanks.
