Hi Guys

In the bios of my Asus P5QL-EM Motherboard and I have an option to over clock -5% 10% 15% 20% is this good to use and does it just overclock the CPU?

Thanks,

probably does just overclock it, and maybe changes the vcore if necessary, but its not as controlled as doing it yourself would be. any reason why you wouldnt manually change the fsb/vcore yourself and test it for stability?

i think my motherboard (gigabyte p35c-ds3r) has options for auto overclocking at certain %'s like that, but its a lot more controlled and you know exactly whats happening if you did it yourself.

Hey Leigh K,

the automatic overclock is fine to use to start with, you may need to adjust your memory timings/frequency manually though. I used that auto overclock 20% feature to take an E5200 from 2.5GHz to 3GHz and an E8400 from 3.0GHz to 3.6GHz, totally stable and the board did most of the work.

In the future you may find manually overclocking gives a better result but to start it seems like a nice easy speed boost!

Hi, just signed up to ask about how you got the E8400 up to 3.6GHz on the P5QL-EM. That is my target on my brand new setup but I can't get this mobo to go more than 340 fsb. It just gives me the "Overclocking or Overvoltage" error on startup.

I am using the stock cooler and get 33 deg C at idle and 50 under full load. My Corsair 8500 2x2GB RAM sticks test OK and the hour long stress test showed no errors.

I seem to be doing what people suggest with manual settings but with no success. I have been cautious with vcore but even giving it a nudge (e.g. 1.28) makes no difference. Others say to get 3.6GHz only requires moving fsb to 400.

I would be grateful if you could post your settings.

TIA.
