Ive just started to install my new pc, its my first build and I just need a couple of questions answered!

Firstly, ive installed a Scythe Infinity and fan. The fan plugs into the motherboards CPU_FAN slot. The only thing is the slot on the board has four pins but the fan has only a three pin connection! My question is can i still fit it to the CPU_FAN connection and leave the GND ground pin free? In other words the fan will be connected only to the CPU FAN PWR, CPU FAN IN & CPU FAN PWM pins?

Secondly ive got some Geil DDR2 1GB x 2 RAM. Do I stick them both in channel A DIMM_A1 & DIMM_A2, its been 4 years since I last installed RAM and cant remember whats the best slots for them!

cheers

1). Yes it's fine to leave the 4th pin off - this is for the PWM signal which I believe allows the motherboard to have finer control of the fan speed. Not that big a deal. The pin disconnected should actually be the PWM pin - I believe the plug is keyed so that you can only plug a 3 pin fan connector into a 4 pin header in one particular way.

2). Not 100% sure on this board but since you want the RAM in dual channel you'll want each stick in a different channel, so one stick for channel A and one stick for channel B. The manual will confirm - or the BIOS will when it POSTs.

Thanks for the help Phemo, and you are correct, it is the PWM pin, I just checked the user guide! And your right about the pin only fitting in one position, cheers!

And after reading the user guide about RAM, your explanation makes more sense than the user guide!!

thanks again for your help

No probs mate :)

Actually have a couple of questions about this board myself now so rather than start a new thread I thought I'd add to this one:

1). Is it possible to use the EZ RAID ports as just IDE connectors? I have 6 SATA hard drives (none are RAIDed and I don't want any to be either) so that'd mean I'd have to use the 3 ICH7-R ports, the 2 EZ RAID ports and the single JMicron port by the wireless board.

I understand that the EZ-RAID ports are controlled by a Silicon Image controller which is then botched into what would be the 4th port controlled by the ICH7-R. For this reason I'm guessing that no, it can't be used in a single drive configuration but I thought I'd double check. I'd really rather not have to use a PCI SATA card again, nor do I want to fork out £200 for the WS boards.

2). Has anyone received one of these boards from OcUK recently? Is it the new revision that supports 1.85v for the MCH? Am I still likely to run the risk of getting the 1.65v version or is all likely to be the 1.85v?
