Asus P5W DH says HD dying, but not util.

I get a message that SMART status BAD, backup and replace drive on boot. This is on my Asus P5W Dh motherboard, I press F1 to resume and alls well. I ran the maxtor power max diagnosis util and it says the drives fine? what should I do? I replaced the sata cable and get the same message on boot.

You should be able to disable the SMART monitoring in the BIOS to prevent the message but you need to be confident that this is a false positive really before you do that.

Have you tried using a copy of Speedfan to get the detailed SMART status?

Thanks for the reply. Im gonna install speedfan to see if it too agrees. This will be the second maxtor to die on me if its true. :rolleyes:

Ran speedfan and it says...
