hi

i have a Asus p5w64 WS pro and a E6600, how do i change the multiplier in the bios for overclocking mine seems to be on 9 stepping and i am unable to change it as i cant select it in the bios, is there something i have missed or do i have to enable something  or is it a case of the processor being locked at that multiplier

thank for any help

processor has a locked multi, you can probably select lower multis, but not higher.

only the extreme edition intels and the FX athlons have unlocked multis!

hi

that confirms my thoughts then, every time i tried to change the multiplier in windows it had to restart then on restart the multiplier was set back at "9" it made no difference if i tried higher of lower multipliers its always went back to "9" :(

yea they have to be locked otherwise companies could buy the cheapest chips, set the multis higher and sell them in systems as a higher rated chip than it is.

you have to download the latest version of the bios from Asus and flash it to the bios chip, upgrading to the latest version for infomation on how to do it look at your manual for the motherboard and follow the steps through
