Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe First Review

ARGH WHY DO THEY KEEP TALKING ABOUT USING IT IN HTPCS!

Silly reviewers that is clearly not what this is about.

Also it says that the VRM prevents the installation of two of the best top down coolers but doesnt actually specify which ones it means. I am guessing AXP-140 and NH-C14. I reckon a Samuel17 might fit though.

Because people might be using it in an htpc... I will be!

** No Competitor price hinting ***

Also this VR-Zone preview has the board for VRMs at just bigger than not massively tall RAM.

But an HTPC never needs that kind of CPU power. You should have some money and grab the H77 or a SB Z68/H67 board or better yet an E-450. I mean how many HTPC setups are going to want 8+2 phase VRM?

Mine will.

Clean power is never a bad thing. Plus this board has more features that I want over the current H77 Asus offering.

I've phoned a few of the more reliable suppliers I deal with today.
The availability dates they have on their systems all landed between the 3rd and the 8th May.

That's for the Asus board.

I expect the situation is similar for the Asrock.

IB sounds like a great platform for HTPCs especially with the new integrated graphics performance.

You're missing the point as are others as to what this board is really about.

Asus is partly to blame for giving it those monkeys to review instead of a proper enthusiasts site who would have gone into more detail about it's overclocking abilities rather than a few lines in the conclusion of the article.

This "could" the first mITX board that's worth spending money on since the legendary Gigabyte H55N-USB3.
Every mITX board since (2 years now) has been a steaming pile of **** from an overclockers perspective.

We still need to see a proper review of this board, and the anticipation for a lot of us interested in an overclocked mITX little beast is very frustrating indeed.

The interesting part in that conclusion is he took a 3570k to 4.6ghz which bodes well.

How durable it will be in the long run remains to be seen.

The Asrock board has no PLL voltage adjustment.

TBF anyone with slight PC knowledge can clearly see "the point" of this motherboard. Just because its made for overclocking the **** out of and has a 16x slot (as with almost every mITX board) doesn't mean anyone who doesnt buy it for the exclusive purpose of overclocking is missing the point. Hell there are motherboards designed for LN2, does that mean anyone not using LN2 is missing the point? No!

The better higher capacity VRMs lend to better more stable power, and with it better efficiency and lifespan from the premium nature of their design.

Plus it can do both right? Overclock and be low power? Since thats the whole idea of Turbo mode.

I was simply commenting on IB as a HTPC platform with Intel HD4000.

Ivybridge still has the 24fps issue that's plagued Intels IGP since they introduced it in Clarkdale (the first i3's if you like)
It hasn't been fixed.

Llano and the upcoming Trinity family of APU's are still a better choice for HTPC use, unless you want to shell out more for a discrete card when you become tired of the frame skipping during 24p content playback on any Intel IGP.

This is irrelevant ofc if you don't plan on watching any 24p content.

The only downside I can see to this board is the stupid 3 jack audio output. If it's capable of 8 channel audio, where's the 5 jack output? Where's the optical out?
