Hello - I just finished building a new mid-tower with this mother board. When I start the computer the "Boot device LED" is red and the Q Code is A2 ("IDE Detect" according to the user manual). And then nothing happens. I do not get BIOS boot.

My screen is also not recognised but I suppose this is supposed to take place after BIOS boot along with other peripheral devices?

I tried the Reset switch and CLR_CMOS both of which restart the computer. I get to the same place.

I have no issues with memory (MemOK! switch is fine).

Your help and advice is greatly appreciated.

The board is actually booting at that Q-Code mate it means booted and A2 shows the Mode the disk controller is in.

Fill us in on the rest of your system and we can help more.

Have you tried resetting bios and with one stick of Ram inserted furthest slot from CPU trying to boot without PCI EX graphics and your monitor attached to the on board graphics port.

Dont have any hard disks or other peripherals attached either, just the basics when trouble shooting.

Here is the system spec:

Asus P8Z77-V DELUXE Intel
Intel Core i7- i7-3770K
Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
Zalman CNPS10X Extreme CPU
GF680GTX2GEPB - 2GB PNY GTX 680
Corsair CMPSU-650HX 650W Power Supply
Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001
Samsung SH-B123L/BSBP 12x Optical Drive

I have tried resetting bios and with one stick of RAM inserted furthest slot from CPU as you suggested, without PCI EX graphics and peripherals attached. I could not connect my old monitor as it has a DVI-I 29pin connector but not an HDMI one. I get the "Boot Device LED" and Q Code A0 (IDE Initialisation Started).

I sequentially added more parts (with mains socket shut) and rebooted the computer each time. At each step I got the "Boot Device LED" and the A0 Q Code.
First, I added the second RAM (the one closest to the CPU) along with the wireless keyboard/mouse. At the next iteration I added the graphics card. At the next one I added the monitor.

The monitor's DVI-A Signal Cable goes into an adapter plugged into the graphics card socket at the back of the case. I get no signal. The monitor is dead - works fine with my old computer.

Do you have a different manufacturers RAM to try?? Recent ASUS bios is not so keen on the Vengeance line for some reason. At A0 the system has booted your just not getting a display which is strange. But its possible its a RAM error as when I push my Trident X really hard I have seen this happen to me.

Could you not try pluging the onboard graphics into a HDTV via HDMI??? It may be that the default display is set to onboard in bios.

I do not have other spare RAM. I connected an HDMI cable into the HDMI socket of the motherboard and into the TV. I got no signal -- the HDMI cable works fine when attached to the TV and to a playstation.

Try a full system clear including removing battery from motherboard. Its a long shot but maybe there is a contact problem in the socket. Could you try teh Intel boxed cooler instead of the Zalmon

I left the motherboard battery out for 5 min and put it back it. Restarted the box and got to the same place as before.
The Zalman cooler responds fine to different speed adjustments of the controller. Why would it affect monitor display issues? Thanks a lot for your help.

Simpe if its a bolt through type it can warp the board which means one pin in teh PU socket is not making full contact with the CPU. This if its display related means no VGA. Try a boxed cooler if you have one. Its worth a go as warping is a problem with all the new Z77 boards.

A more robust design of socket similar to X79 would have been a much better idea.

I have taken out the Zalman cooler and replaced it with the boxed Intel cooler. I went through the same steps as before (starting with 1 RAM in the slot farthest away from the CPU). At each step I got an "A0" Q-code and a red light for "Boot Device LED" but no monitor response through the motherboard's HDMI connection. When I installed the graphics card I got no monitor response through the DVI-I 29pin connector either.

What would you suggest I try next? Thanks again for your help.

I think it may be tim eto RMA mate. We have been through all the trouble shooting options to be honest.

I've just copied Asus technical support on the issue and will await their reply...RMA comes right after that. Thank you very much for your prompt help 8 Pack.

Hello - Following the RMA of the motherboard discussed above, I got a new one (exact same version) ** Competitor name removed **.
I have connected the new board to:

- PSU (Corsair CMPSU-650HX 650W)
- CPU (Intel Core i7- i7-3770K)
- CPU cooler (Zalman CNPS10X Extreme CPU)
- Memory (Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel), only 1 stick in the furthest slot from the CPU

With the PSU ON, the start button (red) and reset button (green) are lit up.
When I press the start button on the motherboard, the CPU cooler lights up (but the fan does not start) and immediately thereafter switches off.

I have taken the CMOS battery out for approx 5 minutes and tried restarting the machine again. I haven't tried switching coolers -- using the boxed Intel cooler.

All parts other than the motherboard are the same as before, so should work.

...Any guidance and help on sorting out this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Can you try moving the RAM closer to the CPU each time and then repeating with the other RAM stick.

You have got the 8pin ATX plugged in?
