Hmm, your CPUs memory controller just might not be up to the task. In all fairness 2200MHz is already a pretty decent speed for DDR3

Yeah, I think it's the CPU memory controller also; and yes 2200mhz is fine. Cheers for everyone's suggestions on this issue.
