Asus PB278Q

I am using a Sony 32in led tv at the moment, for my PC, XBOX, & PS3.
I want to change this for a 27in monitor, for the better resolution, & lower input lag.
I was looking to purchase a Asus PB278Q, it is just in my budget.
I have no doubt this will be a massive improvement for the PC.
Has any one used this monitor for the XBOX 360, PS3, hoping this will improve input lag, as all my friends play BF3, on the XBOX.
Connections can be catered for with a hdmi switch for the consoles.
Sound is a problem, as we have a Creative ZII SOUND two way speakers, because of lack of space. I use headsets for gaming, but for general use, can i use the headphone output to the speakers.
Any other 27in monitor suggestions please, in the same or less price bracket.
Must be vesa mounting.

On the verge of ordering one myself. I bought one of the DGM's not so long ago but of course didn't it arrive with ONE stuck pixel! Sadly I didn't buy from Overclockers and since one pixel isn't covered under warranty I'm stuck (pun very much intended) with it - or I sell it at a loss.
The Asus looks awesome but I'm just waiting on a good comparison with the Dell U2713HM before I take the plunge! Any insight will be much appreciated!

The trouble is there are so many good looking monitors at the moment, it is very difficult to tell the one that is best for my needs.
I have read countless reviws from countless web sites, & am probably even more confused.
As my needs are mostly for gaming, low input lag, & a fast response time are high on the list.
I am wondering if a 1920 1080 would be a better option.

As a recent convert from 1080p to 1440p DO NOT go down the 1920 x 1080 road. As you have probably read in my previous post I have had a bit of bad luck with the DGM and I will be the first to admit that it does look and feel cheap - that's what you pay for.
I still have my previous Iiyama 27 (1920x1080) and it is no slouch as a monitor but it doesn't hold a candle to the DGM. So I can only imagine the Asus or the Dell will be out of this world.
There are just so many advantages to the 1440p - gaming looks awesome at that res and the real estate that I have gained on the desktop is fantastic!

purchased the asus 27 2560x1440 from overclockers 2 weeks ago and not looked back since no problems at all only far better picture in glorious detail no problems in gaming so far. only drawback i could see is if your gpu needs to be upgraded.
i constantly upgrade my pc as its my hobby just ordering gtx 690 to go with my new screen.

Like your style clayer! I am a habitual upgrader and just like you I treat it as a hobby, no better pass time!
No problems on the gpu front for me as I purchased a 7970 when I got the DGM for that very reason.
Right now I am siding with the Asus. There are too many horror stories about the Dell U2713HM.
I know every monitor is going to have it's good and bad stories but the shear number of posts on various forums mentioning RMA'ing the Dell is scary!
Looking at NCIX's Youtube upload the Asus definitely looks the bizz.

thanks gmac11 nice to hear theres someone else out there like myself ill upgrade anything in my pc weather its better or not i even built my daughter a decent pc out of my cast offs. it was a choice between dell or asus and what swayed me to asus was the cosmetic look of it on my desk.looking forward to receiving my 690 and upgrading when new series comes out.

I have almost been in a situation where I could have built a decent PC with my cast offs but I always seem to be 1 or 2 components short when the notion takes me!
Well changing parts regularly is probably going to result in me having 3 monitors but not all the same res so eyefinity isn't even an option.
I take it you don't personally have any problems with the PWM dimming on the Asus? I don't think it will affect me but I have no idea what monitors I had in the past that did or didn't use PWM.

I have a Asus DirectCU II TOP Radeon HD 7970 AMD Graphics Card - 3GB, that should be good for this monitor.
so will i get the low input lag & fast response time with the Xbox, well as fast as the Xbox can handle. As i say all my friends play on Xbox.

the ag coating is very good in my opinion, not over the top coating but still performs well as i have a window behind my desk, my last moniter was iilyama prolite 120 hz coating was noticeable on that 1. that moniter has now been passed down to daughter lol.

the 3gb 7970 should be perfect for this moniter i was using a 680 4gb and had no noticable problems im hoping the 690 is as good lol if not ill buy something else.

Thanks my Hasro is a glossy screen and daytime the reflections are a pain from my patio window. Also recently ia large backlight bleed bottom left has become more pronounced. Squeezing and tappng the bezel helps but it comes back. I guess it is the low quality of the unit.

Very temped by the Asus.

No replies in a few days guys so thought I'd weigh in here. I've been off the radar since last week for one very good reason - I took the plunge on the Asus and I am loving it!
Have basically spent the weekend with the display duplicated on this and my DGM to see if I can appreciate the difference and boy can I!?
I don't want to get too in depth here (it is only a forum after all) but some of the major things that I like on the Asus are:
*The colours are fantastic, out of the box much better than the IPS panelled DGM - whites are VERY white
*Contrast is better
*The range of preset settings are spot on, I find the sRGB setting partiularly useful for Football Manager :D
*In general images are much sharper, text in particular.
*Next to no Backlight bleed, some very slight from top right corner in a pitch black room but I still only noticed it through my Nikon, to the naked eye it may as well not be there.

Other things that I appreciate/noticed that others may find useful:
*Adjustable stand always a good thing
*Internal PSU so no power brick cluttering things up
*Haven't suffered/noticed the PWM phenomenon but I guess I must not be sensitive to it.
*Panel is very nice - as matte surfaces go it's probably the best I've seen so unless you're a Glossy fan boy this is top notch.

While comparing I should just highlight that the DGM does display more apparent input lag than the Asus and while both display a certain amount of ghosting it should be noted that I had to video it and play it back x0.2 speed to see it.

Hope all this helps!

PS: Clayer, can I ask what setting you find yourself using most or did you modify your own?

hi gmac glad your happy with moniter, i am using profile form tft central review site seems to be fine so far.

Well i would think hard, as when it arrived i set it up, & i got this horible buzzing sound, which would not go whatever i did. Also i could not get the full resolution.
Needless to say i have returned it, & am trying to figure out my next move.
Shame ASUS make such great products.
