Hi guys,

I had a play with a mates g-sync monitor recently and I really enjoyed the experience.

I currently have the Dell U3415; I love the 21:9 ratio, 3440x1440 resolution and curve features.

Would you recommend getting the PG348Q or X34A right now, or is there something better in the pipeline that I don't know about for release in the not too distant future?

I'm not in a hurry to get an ultrawide g-sync, but nor do I want to wait months for a monitor that is currently only in early development.

Opinions welcome!

Cheers

Well, in all honesty, is g-sync and a higher refresh rate worth 600 GBP?

IMHO not. If your Dell is fine (no dead pixels, low BLB/glow), I'd honestly keep it and wait. It's too frustrating to play the Acer panel lottery if you ask me.

Save your money and stick with what you have. There's a newer version of the x34 due next year from what I've heard (x34P) but to be honest I would wait for the revision of that later in the year instead of buying it on release.

It may even work out cheaper to just get another 1080 next year and SLI those frame rates into submission :)

if your happy with the dell then i would just stick with it, you will end up spending a lot of money and it will be just the same thing with gsync and higher refresh rate, its up to you if you think its worth it, personally for the cost i dont think it is

Yes it is. Once you have used Gsync and a higher refresh no one wants to go back to not having them. Gsync or AMD's version is a game changer and makes games SO much smoother.

Add both them to ultrawide and its a truly excellent experience. My X34 is the best purchase Ive made in the last 10 year

Well im dont feel entirely the same but close. For my personal use i can play perfectly fine without variable refresh rate but to be fair i do play most of the game at a very high target fps, like overwatch at 240+ or BF1 at 120+. But there is one game where im also pushing 120+ but where i simply cannot go without variable refresh rate and thats grim dawn. That game bugs me to hell when gsync isnt on.

If you havent exposed yourself yet to variable refresh rate and you have had a perfectly good experience so fare perhaps consider waiting for some proper panels to pop up on the market cause most of the monitors these days are pretty bad if you are an nvidia user looking for an ips solution(even the tn ones could have been a bit better considering the premium). Not saying btw that the freesync panels are perfect either but the selection is bigger and when it comes to ultrawide LG has gotten better with their UC/UM*7 and *8 series(etc 34um67, 29um68 and so on). My previous monitor the 29um57 was perfect in the bleed and glow department and OCed to 75 with ease (was not a variable refresh rate panel though).

TLDR: My personal conclussion about variable refresh rate is that its nice to have for that one game from time to time that really benefits but i dont like or feel the premium of gsync is worth it. I would pick higher refresh rate over gsync any day.

I'm waiting to pull the trigger on a gysnc ultrawide atm too. Current state of play is panel lottery with Asus pg348q and Acer X34a being the most desirable candidates. Both companies have horrendous customer service and will be worse than all the Krueger and Halloween films combined should you need to send your panel back.

However, its near the end of the year and DisplayPort 1.3/4 panels should be coming bringing with them higher refresh rates (hopefully in the not too distant future). Worth bearing in mind too is that new Samsung curved ultrawide quantum dot monitor. It's initially releasing with freesync but a gysnc variant will follow shortly after.

TLDR

Wait :D

Best

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm definitely going to get a 100Hz, G-sync ultrawide; after using a friends I feel the experience is worth the uprgade cost from my Dell 3415.

I'll hang off until Acer release the new X34P then make my decision.

Cheers
