Asus Phoebus vs Creative Sound Blaster ZxR £185 or £200

I bought a Asus Phoebus a few weeks back and I had many issue with the beta drivers. The product isn't that great tbh. I bought a Asus D2X instead.

The phoebus is bad, the recon 3d is bad. Don't touch either.

From what I've been reading the zxr is as good or better than the stx at music.
In games the zxr far surpasses the stx with positional audio and effects. There is also the benefit of the ACM and replaceable op amps. Lastly but not least if you have a premium head set then the chances are you do not have a mic attached to it. There is a positional audio mic on the ACM and you can change the audio cone on it :) I believe widest is 180 degrees. Did I also mention the zxr does 5.1 analogue?

Just music and low budget? Get the stx.
Want the best of everything? Get the zxr.
There is also the titanium HD which is still a good card.

Simple as that.

Appreciate some help lads.

So I have a Xonar and Phoebus which will be used along with on-board audio for "Simvibe" tactile immersion for a whacky cockpit.
Understand I may not need all the features of the ZXR but looks great for other games too.

I am considering changing one of the Asus cards for this ZXR but part of the preference for me is in the software layout and features. I plan you see to use a touch-screen alongside the cockpit for audio monitoring and tweaks.
Just kinda looking a change and avoiding driver issues of dual cards of the same brand.

Touchscreen = Audio monitoring / settings / Behringer inuke dsp

Can someone post images of the ZXR software features and does it offer a nice real-time EQ display like the Dolby V4 one above?

Hi guys just returned my Asus rog phoebus to the rain forest for a refund as they had a lot of distortion. And I'm wondering whether to go for the sound blaster zxr, s
How happy are you guys with these as I've not seen any others apart from omega ht strikers that suit my needs but can't get those anywhere

Was in the same boat. Sold on a year old ASUS ROG Phoebus due to awful interference in voice communications that basically made the product useable.

Thread reply here about it:

I really liked the Phoebus, how it sounded and the Dolby software so it was a massive shame. However there's no doubt it, the ZxR is an upgrade. Particularly for gaming. The drivers are solid, and 3D positional audio outstanding. I don't even use the daughter card.

So in short - very happy with the upgrade even six months on.

Zxr installed and very very happy with the sound quality although still using the Astro A40s so need to get buying a good set of headphones

Good to hear you're pleased. I still use the A40's for multiplayer and to be honest I think they are fine for that. For SP though I don't use them.

The A40's are OK though, I've heard worse.

I think these sound cards are overrated & id pick up a essence st/x instead

The ZxR and Essence share a lot of the same components and specs. I do think it comes down to what you want and the price of the two when you buy. I've only ever used the one Asus card (Phoebus) so can't comment on the Essence STX/ST but I think it depends on the prices and what you're after.

Creative have no doubt returned to form with the Z series. I paid about £40-45 more that the Essence was at the time.

This gives me a better card for gaming in my opinion, plus the audio control module which is invaluable. The driver support and sounds in games is stunning (the scout mode for example). Whilst for me I use a Fiio e7/e9 combo for music and don't watch huge amounts of media on my gaming PC.

hi timber any idea on the two below options for using with the zxr
Beyerdynamic MMX300 or QPAD QH-1339 Pro Gaming Headset

Eek, afraid I've never used either. Isn't the QPAD the same headphone rebranded and a bit cheaper?

Hopefully someone will respond that's used this headset.
