Very disappointing if true.

With AMD crossfire drivers and now this (if true) what are they playing at, they'll just hand the market to Nvidia for the next 2 years.

fixed

Honestly, I don't know why people keep going on about the drivers, just look at the last 5 or so pages in the nvidia driver thread.... neither are any better than the other.

To me it's looking like AMD have to be seen to get something to market but it is only a stop short gap until 16-14nm what ever it is with HBM-2

To be fair the reworked Hawaii is codenamed Grenada so I am expecting some decent gains for the rebranded cards. I can't recall the old Tahiti rebrands having a codename change since they were only clocked higher.

With the 290X/390X being stated to have 'most' of DX12 capable, will they be advertising them as DX12 cards?? I'd say yes but without saying 'full support' on the box :D :p

If they want this to be successful, they need to:

- drastically reduce the temps to 980 levels or lower
- at least 10% better performance than the 980
- cheaper than the 980

Even that would be pretty dissapointing. The 980 will be have been out 9 months by the time this comes out!

Yup, it still isn't ideal but if they can deliver on all 3 of those points and price it at £300 or slightly less and I assume they will have games to give away with it then I'm sure people will be very tempted by it.

I imagine that the tess. performance will be a lot better than the 290x as well, possibly even better than the 970/980 if the 285 vs the 960 is anything to go by...

+1

One has great driver stability but slower on game support along with crap mgpu profiles at times, the other has crap driver stability with great game support.

It looks no different to the Asus dcuII 290x. That was unreliable for temps and now there boosting clocks on it.....

There must be differences on AMD's side but at the moment for anyone not buying Fiji it seems like they've been sat on there laurels for 2 years.

Lesser of two evils though really. Although I don't agree with Crossfire comments. Crossfire when there is a working profile has been better than SLI for some time.

NVIDIA's latest branch isn't anything to be proud of, I've rolled back from the latest as it was giving me issues in Witcher 3. Shouldn't have to do that at all, it's the principle of the matter :D

What I don't understand is if its just a re-brand why didn't they just pull the 290X months ago and re-release this card as the 390X? Surely by waiting this long all they have done is lost more sales. This just doesn't make any sense to me.

Well it absolutely has to be reworked somehow (ie cooler and lower power draw) otherwise it is completely pointless.

- easy task, good ccolers on 290X cn do that (Tri-x, Vapor, PCS+...)
- not going to happen..at best they match the 980 imho
- that is almost certain
