Asus rampage III Extreme

This board looks stunning.

I will look forward to reading your review Helios.

Can I ask, what happens with the board after you review it, do you get to keep it?!?!

And how do you manage to get review samples anyway?

I'd be over the moon if companies would send me the latest and greatest hardware to test and review, I'd be in my element doing that!!!

cheers update as soon as u can :>

I will be :D. I've got my work cut out now lol. But if the Maximus III Extreme is any indication, then this will be superb. I absolutely loved the RG Connenct feature via bluetooth! Being able to wake up in the morning and using my phone to turn on the PC was awesome :D. In fact, I don't think many other sites actually tested this feature and merely assumed it was a gimmick but if you want an idea of what it's like, check it here:

With the rampage, I'm gonna try and get it working from a laptop as well.

I totally understand what he means in the video by spending a lot of time reviewing it because ASUS packs so much into their boards!

Oh and we don't get to keep it :(. I do reviews for Vortez Hardware and ASUS seems to like us.

I were thinking that was you in the video =D

Hmmmm, this motherboard could actually double up as a cheesegrater!!!!

Its so good that it makes food. It can melt the cheese too.

<---- Just had a pizza.

Hehe, it has inspired me to make a vid of my own. We'll see how it goes. Asus are good at making multi purpose boards so cooking may be on their new agenda.

whats with all the cpu 4 pin sockets lol dont you only need 1 to work. and whats with all the molex power ports for the pci express sure they are not needed either. Board looks awesome though.

That molex connectors are for people using 3 to 4 graphics cards, it supplies more power to the PCIe slots like Helios has stated.

I just noticed it comes with 3D mark vantage advanced, and I were very nearly going to buy the Vantage twin pack.

That adds a little to its value, but I also wished it had one of those small soundcards that came with earlier models so I could have skipped buying the upcoming X-Fi Titanium HD.

It also has Anti Virus software, but I dont really need that as I have both MS Security Essentials and AVG free. Could maybe ebay it if its a 1 year license.

why would you want to use those Supreme X-Fi things or X-Fi MB

its not X-Fi at all there is no hardware sound acceleration.

All it is is a HD on-board audio device and some Creative X-Fi software basically its X-Fi software emulation this is no replacement for a good hardware accelerated sound card.

I meant that I could delay buying the X-Fi card and use that one for the time being.

That would give me more funds for the motherboard :p

I'll just keep on Ebaying my old stuff until I have enough saved up in Paypal for the new parts. Still have the two PSUs to get rid off.

I should be able to get enough for the Motherboard from what I have to get rid off right now, then afford the I7 970 later on from what I get for my Gigabyte X58 and I7 920.

Hi

I asked this question already but got no answer.

Does anyone know whether this motherboard has Internal USB 2.0 headers that you can use for connecting a 5.25" Drive Bay Card Reader etc to the board???

From the screenshots posted already for the board on page 3 of this thread, it has a red headers just beside the Double Power connectors (EZ Plug) that looks exactly like a USB header but i`m unsure if that is what it is.

Thanks for responding.

The red thing is the IEEE 1394 port connector. The board will have 2 internal USB connectors. I assume you mean the same ones that front panel connectors of cases hook up to?

Most card readers come with a cable that connects to the card reader and on the other side of the cable it has a black connector with 5 pins that you must connect to the motherboards internal USB header which should have something like 9 pins, see screen below.

The 4 bottom pins are the ones that i`ll have to connect my card reader too.

The above USB headers are what i`m talking about.

Does this motherboard have these Internal USB 2.0 headers above???

Thanks for responding.

The Maximus III Extreme has 2 of them so I'm certain the Rampage will have them as well. I'll have a look and let you know for sure on Friday but I can't see why it wouldn't have them.

I wonder if any reviewers have an Asus Triton 88 cooler to try on this board to see if it will fit .....

Its looking like it definately wont with the bigger optional motherboard heatsink :(

I dont want a new cooler because my current temps are 5 degrees lower than Megahalem review temperatures.

Although common sense is now kicking in and telling me that I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT NEED THIS THING IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER, DO NOT BUY, DO NOT BUY, DO NOT BUY ........

But then my evil hand will still keep on trying to buy the thing once its available because it looks sooo shiny and tempting, just like it keeps on trying to preorder a £499 5970 :x

Stupid evil scizo hand, needs chopping off it does.

I'll be using it with the Noctua NH-D14 so I'll have a check this weekend.
