ASUS RT-56U Padavan FW, Setting Up as Access Point.

You aren't getting confused with the WAN IP are you?

In modem mode the hub presumably passes the WAN IP through to the connected router.

Assuming this is the case it wouldn't be that surprising for it to change. Virgin IPs can stick around for a long time but they aren't static.

Next time it changes check who the IP belongs to.

He gave the IP and it was local.

Interesting thread, I've ordered a rt56u, currently have sky via asdl and std fastmon router this is how I intend to wire it up with asus as wifi access point

fastmon (wifi off, 192.168.0.1 static, dhcp scope set to 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.253)
->
wan port rt56(192.168.0.254 static, dhcp off, various ssids set up etc)

OP which router do you have handling dhcp nat etc?

He said is was 'something like' rather than giving a definative answer. He wouldn't have much wrong for it to be a routable address rather than local.

In this instance only the first digit. I know VM do have an 8. range though.

OP you need to clarify the IP address you are getting.

No i look in my Linksys router settings and its the actual Gateway IP address thats changed, not the wan ip

I have my Linksys handling all that, as apparently when you turn on AP mod on the Asus all DHCP, NAT etc are disabled

Just another side note, i woke up this moring and check my phone like i do most morning and noticed that the wireless connection seemed to be down as i could connected to any webpages (or though it still reported full wifi bars on the phone). I turned my Virgin SH off for a minute and back on and it started working again, not sure if its related or not!?

Ok I think the gateway IP address error might haven been a user error, as it hasn't happened since

BUT, the last 3 mornings when I've checked my phone theres a status message saying the wireless connection has become unstable and I've need to power off and on again just the Virgin media superhub and after that it works fine. Strange thing is its always fine in the day time, no issues at all not sure what happens over night for it to crap out and it's happened now 3 nights on the run!. Any suggestions??
