Asus RT-n56u major problems with Win 7

Hi all,

Has anybody else had any grief with this router and Windows 7? I've just changed ISP to Zen and have got this new router. Everything connects perfectly apart from my Win 7 PC. A Macbook, 2 phones, a PS4 and a Sony TV all connected perfectly over WiFi with no problems. My Windows PC however.....jesus....it's been a week and I still get the 'No Internet access' and little yellow triangle error. I have an Asus PCe-n15 network card that worked flawlessly with my old Netgear router, so why the problem now?

Is anyone up for trying to troubleshoot my problem?

I have tried pretty much everything I can think of. Routers firmware is up to date; driver for network card is good; I've tried giving the pc a static IP AND I've let it obtain automatically. I've flushed DNS etc...

When I try the Windows 'diagnostic' feature it tells me that "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding".
This makes no sense, as every other device I have works perfectly!

I'd be most grateful for any help here as I'm pulling my hair out!

Does it work when connected up via Ethernet cable?

Check all settings are set to auto on the lan/wireless card

Can you disable then enable the card, or delete it then scan hardware and reinstall it again, helped me clear odd issues before

Worth a shot

Hi iMacMart - yeah, tried that!

Bledd, which settings do you mean? And as for ethernet cable; I guess that's the next logical step but it's tricky...PC is upstairs, router is in hallway.

Even when the yellow triangle disappears and I'm told i have 'internet access' I cannot load any web pages.
BTW, I'm also unable to log into the router from this PC. Which doesn't look good...

Sadly, it's a big old machine in an upstairs bedroom and the router is in hallway so wiring it in is a pain to say the least.

No, I'm just using the Windows security. When I run diagnostics, I get one of the following messages:

It says your network card is disabled..

Check Device Manager, see if it's on..

Might just need a driver for it. Show us device manager screenshot of the 'Network' section.

Also, show us screenshot of your Network Connections from Control Panel

-edit, remembered, it's a wifi connection.

I'd try newer drivers for your wifi. Which card do you have?

It's an Asus PCE-N15. The newest driver I can find is a couple of years old though....I just don't get how changing a router and ISP can cause this. Damn you Windows!

Ah yeah, I have seen that message and yes, it does mean the card was disabled. I shouldn't have bothered to upload that one, sorry - my mistake.
The other message, the one about the DNS server not responding is the common problem.

I've edited the post to avoid any more confusion!
