ASUS Speeding HDD?

got this 'feature' on my mobo (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-283-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1155)

- 2 x Silicon Image Sil5723 SATA 3Gb/s

what does this actually mean? i know its something about RAID 0 and 1, but am i able to use each port as its own SATA port like the others on the board?

Theese are dedicated sata ports for setting up raid configs on the boards silicone image raid controller, the board will also run raid using the standard sata ports on the intel ich10r raid controller. Silicon image is a basic raid form and if you decide to run a raid array its reportedly better to use the ich10r setup. I dont think the silicon image ports can be used on their own either, only in raid.
