ASUS Utilities...worth using/keeping? (AI Suite)

Hey guys,

Another question to do with ASUS utilities here :)

I have an Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) and was just installing drivers / utilities for the motherboard, well those that would run and that I could find, as I just upgraded to W7 64-bit.

I have the following utilities currently installed:

AI Suite - This is the one i'm most interested in. Its got my PC in a "Turbo Mode" at the moment. Its got all kind of stuff like AI Nap, AI Gear 3+, AI Booster, Q-Fan and CPU Level up.

ASUS Update - If I want to update I guess I would rarther flash the BIOS using a USB stick and use the utility in the BIOS so might rid this.

PC Probe II - Which is currently complaining my MB is 50C, NB 47C, SB 46C (with my pc side open too :S is that bad?)

From all your experiances with ASUS, should I uninstall these? Or is one of them actually worth using / keeping?

Thanks a lot guys.

The only one i use is ai suite, mainly for configuring fan speeds via qfan, the rest i never bother with, like you say, if udating bios definitely use a usb pen drive via ez flash, the windows update utility is known to kill boards.

PC Probe is very inaccurate, I would use something else even if it means using two pieces of software to get the temps you want.

AI Suite I found pretty useless, The fan control was quite good but I ended up replacing that with Speedfan.

The inbuilt Windows power options also do a fine job of controlling the CPU's overclock. Power saver will keep it in the minimum multiplier at all times when I want maximum power saving, Balanced will let it ramp up when needed but also lower it when not required.

If you like AI Suite, use it. But stay away from PC Probe and Update (As its safer to use the BIOS)

I had trouble with almost all the Asus tools for my p6t se board:

One of the utilities made Mediacenter choppy and even made it crash, hard to tell which one. AI nap sometimes refused to wake up. The EPU6 dynamic overclock/underclock thing looks very promising but was a little too aggressive on the voltages so i don't dare use it. If only i could tweak it, i'd leave the bios on auto and use it to overclock moderately.
And finally the TurboV utility didn't quite reach the overclock speeds the bios did for me.

The fan speed utility inside AI suite was nice though, allows you to adjust the bios fan speeds from windows instantly without a reset.

i used Probe thingy for a few days

asus pointed out that it actually reads the correct voltage for the rampage 3 when they sent their team to visit me

its ok and does a good job of reading volts and nb/sb temps

but everest is better

especially when asus decides to tell you your nb has jumped from 30'c to 6000'c for some reason

I've found the utilities to be unwieldy and fairly inaccurate. The fan speed control has been the most useful.

Don’t use Asus Update unless you want to render your bios useless.

These days I use Everest for monitoring motherboards.

I only use AI suite to control my fans, all others i don't really bother with, pc probe 2 i only have showing my vcore, mobo temp and cpu fan speed, but i still check other stuff just incase lol.

After recently updating my bios via ez flash at boot up, i found u don't need a pen drive, u can access your storage drive or even main drive from inside the utility, that certainly saved me a few hours trying to find a spare pen drive lol.

Wasnt aware you could use ez-flash from a hdd, handy to know as im forever loosing my usb flash drive.

Yeh i did'nt know either, but i thought lets have a look at this thing, so i knew what i was doing, as it was my first time using asus stuff, and yeh i was shocked too, but pleasantly shocked.

found asus update useful flashed my bios on my p6t deluxe 6 times using it

only trouble i did have with it is that some times it would not find the latest bios and u would have to down load the bios yourself and then flash from file but apart from that great little tool

The only two Asus utilities I use are the Turbo V and Turbo Key. I find them extremely useful. When doing general stuff, I run at stock speed then when I wanna encode, push a button and volla! 4GHz OC
