Hi Guys,

Just got this monitor today, generally really impressed with it bar one dead pixel so I'm getting it swapped out as it's almost central to the screen. Barely any IPS glow (coming from a DELL TN panel) that I can see and the out of the box settings seem fairly good. There are barely any reviews as of yet and I've read conflicting issues around using the ELMB Sync mode, what are peoples general thoughts on this? Turning it on almost halves the brightness but I've read about overshoot issues. Using the monitor in racing mode (best out of the box settings which is pre-calibrated supposedly) currently so hoping other owners can share their best settings! Running it at 170hz at the moment but again others saying to drop it to 165hz so it would be interesting to see what is best, I believe overclocking to 170hz can result in flickering.

Any questions just ask and I'll try and answer them as best I can!

I've got the same monitor, owned it for about a month now. I haven't noticed any dead pixels on mine; there is some glow in the bottom left corner, but it's only noticeable on completely black backgrounds and it's nowhere near as bad as some examples I've seen on other monitors, so I decided it wouldn't be worth returning it. I've got mine set on racing mode, warm colour temp, brightness at 20% and contrast at 80%. I tried ELMB but it kills the brightness and contrast and the image looks way worse, plus I found it was introducing some stuttering in certain games. I've currently got the refresh rate set to 165Hz, I read about the possible flickering at 170Hz and just defaulted it to 165Hz.

So far I'm very happy with the monitor. It's got a really nice picture, it's fantastic in every game I've tried so far, and I like the aesthetic. Yes, the back of it is a little bit more 'gamery' than I'd like, but I can't see that anyway so it doesn't bother me. The only thing that's bad is the price, having to pay the Asus tax often puts me off their products. I mainly bought the XG279Q because I was bored in lockdown, couldn't find a GL850 in-stock anywhere and managed to nab it for a good price thanks to a temporary price reduction and some vouchers for the site I bought it from, but tbh I probably would have given it a miss if I'd been paying the prices I've seen on most sites now.

Thanks mate, glad to see another owner present. I'm also using racing mode but the brightness defaults to 50 which is fairly bright, also got mine set to 165hz due to issues I'd read as well with overclocking to 170hz. Have you got a pic of your IPS glow? Mine isn't as good as I first thought but I'm getting a replacement panel at some point when more stock arrives, the colours do look very good though. I've heard the glow can settle down after a few weeks of use? Any truth in that?

I've just tested on a black screen in a dark room and to my eye it does appear as if the glow might have reduced a bit. I took one photo with the flash off:

and one with the flash on:

Imo the second one is more representative of what I see if I'm viewing a completely black image, though I have to say that generally I only see the bit of glow in the bottom left and maybe a tiny bit in the bottom right.

Backlight bleed and such "mura" are also related to stresses on LCD matrix possibly from manufacturing.
So it's entirely plausible that running warm relieves some of those residual stresses.

This was mine last night but I'll see how it goes over the next week. Not sure how long my replacement will take but mainly got that due to the stuck red pixel, but the glow is bad bottom right corner for me. One review I read on another site suggested it improved after a week when it looked quite bad so we will see. Yours looks fairly good really. It's always going to be an issue with IPS. Genuinely happy with the monitor though, colours look great and I'm playing better on Modern Warfare so must be good! :D

Quick question, should vsync be on in nvidia control panel or off when using gsync? Seem to be mixed reports on if it's best on or off!

It honestly doesn't look too bad on yours either, you can definitely see that bottom right is the main source of glow, like bottom left is on mine, but it's not terrible. I think when gsync is turned on the only thing vsync would do is stop any tearing when framerates exceed the max refresh rate of the monitor. Quite a lot of games have a maximum refresh rate option and I believe this is the recommended option, but if a game doesn't have this and you're regularly exceeding 170fps then you might want to consider turning on vsync as well as gsync.
