ok i am not talking about the hardware on the card itself but more the size of the card. i wanted this card cause not only does it look good on paper but it was to be pci-express, good news i thought i will be able to get good sound again in my 680i MB with sli setup, how ****** i was to find that the card is to long and it hit the first bank of memory, i could use bank 2 and 4 except i found my memory just doesn't work as well on those 2 slots (get a number of random c1 errors when i use 2-4 slots it a 680i thing) there is no room for it between the sli graphic cards (both are 2 slot cards).
so basically ill have to stay with the on board sound for now,

also decided to try the d2x on a p35 mb i have, again it hits the memory slots making it all but useless on that mb

have i just been unlucky with my choice of MB's or did they make the dx2 about .5cm too long

What brand is your P35 motherboard? That's pretty bad/odd if it were an ASUS and the company's own soundcard didn't fit on their own motherboard.

With regards to the 680i mobo, you should be able to slot the PCI-E soundcard into the spare PCI-E 16x slot, as it will still only utilise one lane.

Or so I read in Custom PC anyway.

funny enought it is a asus MB a p5k deluxe, which is worst than the 680i as neither memory slot 1 or 2 can be use (it may be possible to use slot 2 but it be dam tight and i can't using crucial ballistix memory)

that very interresting about using the spaer pci-e 16x slot, i must go read up on it before i try it

"PCI-e 1x devices will work in a 1x slot, 4x slot, 8x slot, and a 16x slot, there will just be empty spaces between the card and the end of the slot. A 4x device can use any slot 4x or above. Also right now the only thing that I’ve seen that uses them is NIC cards and RAID controllers. I'm sure in the future other devices will use this interface (ex. sound cards, TV tuners) as PCI-e is suppose to be replacing PCI".

not every board puts the pci-e slot right up there. it is poor, i agree, but im not sure who you can blame for it lol. just use it in the pci-e slot instead. or do what i did and buy a pci card next time!
