At my wits end

It could be the tyres. I had my geo done 3 times. Twice before replacing the tie rods, tie rod ends etc and once after. Still pulled to one side.
A new set of tyres and the car is running straight as it should.
 
Coil spring is snapped. As you turn the wheel, it rotates the spring against the spring seat - compressing the spring. When you let go of it, the spring uncompresses, turning as it does so. That turns your steering rack.
 
It sounds borderline dangerous - cant you get someone who knows what to look for to get it up on a ramp and find the problem?
 
Ive had to book my car in to get the wheel alignment checked, it was pulling to the left but since ive had new tyres fitted to the front it pulls quite badly to the right. Weird.

So if you are coasting a long a straight road and you let go of your steering wheel, the steering wheel actually moves 40 degrees to the left of its own accord?
 
Well the car free wheels very well gradual slow down, so dont think anything is really binding.

ill just have to take to garage and see what they say, but i loathe the sharp inhale from the mechanic just before a large number comes out his mouth.
 
Take it to more than one place to make sure your not getting fleeced

When you took It for alignment did you always use the same place ? They could be awful

Kwikfit left mine pulling to the right once , not as severely as yours sounds mind

Lol, few niggling issues but for most part been quite a fun run around and relativly reliable :p

I took it to 2 different places for tracking, 1 was "national" which if am honest just wanted to push tyres on me.
Other was a local place, my luck may be bad, but i would like to think one of them didnt a decent job.

Normal places don't care about this stuff so don't waste your time. Book time for these jobs is n minutes and the glazed, disinterested look you get is them working out how much they're about to make off you as soon as the words 'pulling to the left...' leaves your chops.

Find a one man band who needs your business or failing that a motorsport outfit or something. Whether the latter is justifiable depends on how much you love the car :)
 
My Mondeo was pulling to the left but not as severely as yours sounds.

Turns out it was the rear suspension bushes that were split.

Might be worth checking the rear sus if you haven't already – it's not always down to the steering rack.

As I said earlier, check the your front coil springs. My car was doing exactly the same (it'd also clunk if you turned it lock to lock, and one side of the car would dip when the wheel was turned to lock).

If the track rods are fine, and the wishbones aren't loose etc etc - it is likely to be the coil spring having snapped. (Or your top mount bearing)

Is this not a vital piece of information guys? Surely in gear, both driven wheels should not be moving by hand?

"fixed" this issue, i swaped my back tyres to the front and would you guess my steering wheel is arrow straight now when i let go.

Made me think wtf, i checked severaly times and fronts are the same size as each other, different brands :confused: , still drifting to side but 90% reduced.
