I like cars - mine is quite loud, but....

Local lad drives past the house in an old modded car twice a day, exhaust is seriously loud, backfire sounds like a shotgun going off multiple times in the front garden (and house is set back) BANG BANG BANG...usually just as the little one is going to sleep. The is a good exhaust sound - and just a bloody racket. You know what I mean - this is just on another level.

Not had the pleasure of speaking with him yet - but what's the deal re. legalities. Can I shop him to the Police for a car 'ASBO' if I get his plate, or what?

doesn't sound like much of a problem, twice a day for what ? 20 seconds each time?

cmon, police has better things to do, just deal with it.
 
If the worst thing in the world for you is a loud car going buy daily then good for you. If he was doing donuts in the street I'd feel differently...

As above, it's not hard to be reasonably quiet even with the most ridiculous of exhausts when passing built up areas - probably just an idiot that likes to bounce on and off the throttle everywhere they go

Would annoy me if it was stopping my little Tasmanian devil from going to sleep (though tbh it probably wouldn't stop her), have a word then just report it - though it's not likely to really be a priority unless they're getting similar calls from elsewhere

I used to have the most ridiculous exhaust ever on my old Civic but I wouldn't dream of making the car backfire in a built up area. Surely only a complete knuckle dragging moron would think that it's acceptable?

You don't have kids, do you.

OP, if you really consider it to be an issue then I would consider reporting it as outlined above. The type of person with this sort of exhaust is more likely than not to give you a mouthful of abuse than listen to your problem and behave sensibly about it so I wouldn't waste time trying to talk to them.
 
Embellish the story a bit (speeding/ deliberately inconsiderate driving or whatever) & report him.

He will then likely get issued a Section 59 :cool:

The problem the OP describes is a car backfiring and banging, though - presumably either by being driven hard or the throttle being deliberately blipped on overrun.
