At the risk of sounding like an old codger....

Lmao, it's not like he's literally binning the car in front of ops house all day long, twice a day for a few seconds is hardly a problem! Jeez some people, police would laugh at you if you reported that.

Your attitude is disgusting TBH. Why should he have to put up with it? It's anti-social and unnecessary.

I questioned myself today - whether I was over reacting. Then he drove past, revving just to hear the backfires on the over-rev. That soon made my mind up. He's obviously just an anti-social tit. Unsurprisingly, speeding every time he passes (30 zone), loads of kids about etc.

It's a little like the Indian call-centers who keep calling every day at 7, just as I get the baby to sleep - at least the phone has a silent night-mode so i can filter them out. Even the most innocuous thing, at the wrong time, for a period, is enough.

No intention to waste police time, just wondered what the score was. Will try and speak with him first. The exhaust on my car is modified, so I totally get it - but I wouldn't behave like that - have some respect for others ffs.

I dunno maybe I'm used to chavs banging their ATVs all over the place all day long. Maybe I just cba to stress my self over it and that one minute a day doesn't do much.

My attitude does not stink I just have a different POV when it comes to these things.

..I wouldn't dream of making the car backfire in a built up area. Surely only a complete knuckle dragging moron would think that it's acceptable?

I can manage a nice set of pops and crackles with little effort - although nothing major - and I don't need to be doing anything stupid. Here the OP says he is being a knuckle dragger, so that's quite different than just standard driving/accelerating. For the noise side, you can inform the local police and they *might* make a note of it, but play on the ASBO side and they might take more notice.

I have two young children who are generally tucked up in bed and asleep by 6pm. Like most parents I get very angry very quickly when their rest and comfort are disturbed, particularly as it could potentially spoil my evening as well. I'd say report the driver!

Back in my days without children I'd have probably not even noticed the noise unless it was really OTT

This. Makes me laugh every time I see certain posters tr and downplay anti-social issues as though they are so cool and tolerant to get worries about such things.

If it happens twice daily and is otherwise avoidable then it IS an issue, especially if you have kids, and people who can't see it from that perspective are just a bit dim.

I would just report him and see what they say, you have nothing to lose.

Regarding the calls, are you signed up to the TPS service, would that help?

There's one up our road, drives you mad,you can hear him set off for work at 7 in the morning, Subaru it is,

Why can't they just stick a normal silencer on?

That's like asking a biker why they can't just keep their stock can :p

I'm imagining that the offender is a 17 year old in a 1996 Civic with an undeclared straight pipe and drain pipe silencer.

Someone near me drives a crap heap like that, it is so loud that it hurts your ears when it drives past you, the one I see is absolutely illegal without a shadow of a doubt.

Report, even when I had a jap car with mental exhaust, I fitted the bung when I was driving the car normally. I also made sure I drove around built up areas at low revs and kept the noise down.

Not acceptable to be making that much noise that its causing issues.

That said, perhaps maybe just go have a chat with him first, and let him know the kids situation. It's entirely possible he just has not thought about the results of his actions!

a friend of mine had a big silly loud exhaust on his dreadful Corsa. He'd leave for work in the morning and come home in the evening, like your neighbour. He received complaints about his car and the police took it quite seriously, paid him a visit, hassled him quite a lot about it actually.

After that visit he was getting pulled over a lot too, could be coincidence but in the end he got rid of the car and got something more sensible as he felt like a police target in it.

So if he's anything to go by, reporting him will at least get some response.

Chances are you aren't the first and wont be the last to complain about him.

It is probably some insurance friendly 1200cc shopper but in a 30 zone he has a chance to exhibit some macho noisemaking muscle.

Just mix a load of thermite up in a bin and stick it on his bonnet and light it!

Stand back and admire your work, as the kids say, for the lols!
