Topic @ At what age did you start programming?

I am 21 soon 22 and want to get into web development but have no previous experience other than some html/css and very basic PHP (Datatypes + their functions, nothing more) (Which is what I wanna get into).

I don't think age matters. Programming can be learnt at any age with the right attitude. I learnt html and photoshop when I was 15-16, but recently learnt css without any problems. I'm moving onto php and other web technologies soon in the hope of also becoming a web developer.

Probably when I was about 13. I'm still rubbish at software design in general though, I really should read into it more. :/.

First started when I was about 13 with the (awful) scripting language used by Operation Flashpoint. Moved onto HTML from there, then to PHP, and then ended up branching out into loads of different things.

At 10 (28 years ago :()

Programmed in TI99/4a BASIC, then to Extended BASIC, then to 6502 on a C64 and branched into other areas.

Finally ended up in SQL, VB.Net/C#, ASP and Python.

Also curios to know until what age the average developer can work/program for and have his mind still working fully? I know this might sound stupid but I really wanna know if there are any statistics on this...

Started when I was around 13 maybe. In Q-Basic, VB6 and Phython.

Then started writing my own flash games and VB games at home, wrote a web browser in VB6 (which yeah I know damn near everyone does :p).

Eventually got a job doing it when I was 18, and here we are today I'm 23 and loving my work :)

Where I did my work experience in the mid-nineties there were a couple of guys who coded software for oil exploration in COBOL who were both in their 60s.

I first started "programming" when I was 7 in Visual Basic 5. By programming, I mean making progress bars move and stuff. I made my first "game" in C when I was 12, that's probably what I'd call my first real code. :)

Once you get one or two languages down, it's fairly easy to pick up others. I picked up perl in a weekend last year. :)
