Ive just got insurance on a 3.0i Z4 (group 19)
9000 Miles/year
0 NCB
Full licence for 4 years
City centre post code
£1350 ish for 12 months (Although Ive ended up paying £1100 for 10 months with the same company)

A 2.5i Z4 was around £900 for the full year.

Yet to insure a Clio 182 worth £5.5k was working out at £1500.

Use Bell, put your mum on the policy and wait till you hit 21? That seems to have solved my insurance quote issues

Them and elephant were by far the cheapest for me. Also added my dad too which bought it down even further.

EDIT ##I was 21 in August.

them quotes are daft, at 20 in a group E postcode (2nd to worst) my car with 2 years "named driver" bonus and 2 years of drivingwas £1700, the e90 only added about £20 literally. (330i)

try directline, they're VERY good for young drivers in bad postcodes on quickish saloons (half the price of anywhere else for me, and were the same on the mondeo too)

you tried swiftcover yet?
And btw bmw's aren't always as well built and reliable as you may be lead to believe.
I would class a nearly new 330 as flash for a 21 year old.
End of the day it's your money and your choice but you should see why the quotes are so expensive!
Good luck

I must live in a good area, though I do have 3 years NCB now which probably helps!

I'm 19 with E46 320i IG 15 - £1000 still a little pricey I don't expect it to drop significantly till im 20-21

Churchill seem the best for me.

Thank you Mr. Smart-arse. Fortunately I fulfil both of those criteria - but that doesn't mean I think it is fine to pay a quarter of what the car costs to buy in insurance.

Thats fine, and rare. 99% of these kind of post are from people who have managed to get a loan for £x,000 and want to spend all of it on a BMW because 'its a BMW', and then pay for the running/insurance/everything else with there part time job in Tescos.

Even if I was one of those people, your post wasn't on-topic or helpful. So in future, I suggest you (1) Don't post or (2) If you really want to post, check the circumstances before making sweeping generalisations.

Thanks.

When you hit 25 and you apparently magically become a better driver, insurance drops a lot.

With no NCB and no years experience at 25 I was paying £500 for my group 16 XJ6.

Now I have a group 18 which is £800, which is a lot, but I shudder to imagine what it would cost me if I was under 25.

Edit - Oh, I live in a nice postcode too.

sounds good, my 525i is £700 for only 6000 miles with 2ncb @ 23. Also i am a relitivly good ST5 postcode :(

My insurance has flat spotted though, year 1 cost me £1300 tpft, next year £650 tpft, then £700 on my volvo tpft now £700 fully comp on 525i

In my experience and from speaking to a few others at work of roughly the same age, Bell are the company most likely to give a workable quote. At 21, my e46 330 premium was ~ £2200 with zero ncb and a couple of fault accidents on my mum's policy. Imagine it would have been a lot better for someone without the dodgy history! The next best quote was about 4 grand higher.
