At what point do you replace your motor?

All of that should be expected of a car that age.

You could buy a 4-5 year old car and still have the same issues.

The 1.6 Zetec lump in your fiesta is a fantastic engine. Keep on top of servicing and it'll last you a good few years yet. The main killer of these is rust, not mechanics.

Aye, the rear arch rust is well and truly in full swing.

I guess I'm just concerned that I'll throw £3-4-500 at it getting the clutch, spring and caliper done and it'll chuck some other bills at me.

when its completed had it :)

I've had my MB6 Civic VTI for > 8 years now - only considering replacing it now. Bought it at 72K miles, now 160k

only trim/eletrical bits let it down in the last year

sunroof stopped sliding all the way back, drivers electric window busted (was too expensive to fix - 290 - and considering I only intended to keep it another 6 months), both rear door handles "iffy" (held on with tape but do work) - yes I had them re-welded at a garage but they re-broke.

other than that - it hits the red-line daily (8300rpm) AND its still on the original clutch, the only "major" thing it had was at 80k miles I replaced all 4 suspension struts

not worth anything now, but £4k with very little bills other than (lots) of tyres - is cheap motoring IMO for 8 years worth.

next car will definately be a Honda :) if the right one comes up anyway

Sounds to me like you are looking for an excuse to change the car. If you want another car, get another car - but to try and justify it as avoiding potential future bills is generally quite short sighted. All cars cost money to run, it's just one of those things.

I normally just change car when I get the urge, normally every 18 months or so, I normally try to justify it to myself by making petty excuses, but really I just comes down to wanting a change.
