Thats because the 201-BXT has paint on it which makes the panels thicker where as praetorian is bare brushed aluminium. Strip the paint off the 201-BXT and underneath there the same panels

Ooooooh, never thought of it that way!

Yewen say something :D

Depends what your calling a black widow.

The older cases of the SX1 time's panels are thicker than the SX2 versions, which are the same as the Praetorian.

That's my say something, im a bit distant, 512k to 4.4mb broadband has gone to my head :D

any way to tell which one i have? SX1 or 2?

Which one of what?

If your talking 201 then yes the SX1 is better IMO all round, the top blow hole has slated louvere style vents and the pained top panel comes off, the SX2 the top blow hole is mesh and the top panel is rivited in place.

If your talking the 111 thats a trickier matter, as personaly i cannot spot any difference between an SX1 and an SX2 - posibility may be the colour of the LEDs as the 201-SX1 LEDs are green & orange and iirc the 201-SX2 LEDS are blue, but i don;t know if this is the case with the 111s as i haven't checked it.

Do you still have the box for it? it will say on the box what version it is

Wow, the case looks awesome :D Makes me wish I had the silver Praetorian over the Black one now :p Good job there though. How did you get in touch with CoolerMaster btw? I've tried in the past with no reply so any help is appreciated.

O/T: Does anybody with a Praetorian use the top fan? I find that it makes a ton of noise and doesn't really do much. Is there anything I can do with the plastic frame the fan goes on to try silence it a little bit? At the moment it's unplugged and I've just got the front two, and the back one plugged in.

Email: [email protected]

They can be very slow, but you need to keep emailing them, not every day though otherwise they'll get peeved off and you wont get anything lol

The top exhaust is on most of the 201 chassis cases and as you say it doesn't make much difference to temps. Interesting to know it's a plastic frame used in the praetorian!
You could try some of the Vantec Vibration Dampening Kit for Case Fan - 80mm (FG-001-VA) they work quite well i have them in my 201

Plastic? My friends had metal type grill ones.

Just had a look and it is indeed some kind of metal grill type casing. Doesn't feel like metal, but rather a thick plastic. Any tips on making this sturdier so it isn't vibrating as much whenever the fan is turned on?

Well, I guess I'll get back to the third day of trying to remove Akasa Paxmate dampening mat from the sides of my case. The stuff is the spawn of Satan himself

Load of people put this stuff inside cases and it totally ruines them.

I've seen countless classic cases going for a song price wise which have had this stuff in them - there is an ATC-500 going on ebay at the moment which has similar stuff inside, shame really as i'd like that case but wouldn't part with £30 for the effort involed in removing the stuff!

Oh believe me, if I had known how useless this stuff was, I'd have never have even dreamt of putting it inside my case. It hardly made any kind of difference except for pushing case temps up :p

It's coming off slowly though, Once you peel off the rubbery top mat, you can douse(sp?) the glue with nail polish remover and wipe it away. Takes a few bottles of the stuff though. So far I've got one side done, just working on the other and I'll be a happy bunny. I did apply it to the bottom of the case too but I won't be removing that until I upgrade the rig.

Now to find a good windowed side panel ;) Tis a shame CM didn't make a proper windowed side panel for the Praetorian. Oh, and I'm useless with cutting so I'm not even gonna try it myself lol.

Hehe I've emailed CM about it but with no reply as of yet. Gonna try again in a minute and hope they have a few knocking about. I've also got to find a fan controller that matches the Prae, and sort out the CM fascia on one of my DVD drives (I changed the drive and lost the double sided sticky tape stuff so I've ghetto fixed it with Blu-Tac :D ). After that, I've gotta sort out the fans in the case and get them changed to quieter versions - still running the standard CM ones in there. Aaand after all of that, I've gotta try do something with the top fan so the cage doesn't vibrate so much.

Gotta love these CM cases :D

kinda off topic, but does anyone know what the best materials to use to clean the paint work on the old atc cases are? I have a atc 201-bxt (black widow) case and i need to clean the painted panels on it, but im worried that some cleaning materials may damage the paint, i figured someone may have tried this already and might have some ideas on what the best stuff to use is (Yewen or Harib0?)

Nice restoration on the atc-111 by the way.

I have used car cleaning / polishing stuff on the side and top of a black widow, worked a treat. As it is coated in car paint it is ideal.

Harib0 has used cillit bang to great effect, have not used it myself but it should be ideal for the aluminium.

Just dont use car cleaning stuff on the front panel, take it off first.
