Simple question...

if I'm buying that processor, how fast should the RAM be?
I've seen specs saying 800MHz, 1000MHz, 2000Mhz... so.... which is it??

TIA!

AM2 boards will only support the max ram of 1066 DDR2 (only some motherboards with a bios update).

Eitha DDR2-800 or DDR2-1066.

Thanks for your reply Andrew... but which one is it... 800 or 1066?

1066 sticks are almost double the price of 800, and I don't want to pay double if I don't have to!

Thanks guys :)

One more thing that i forgot... I'm looking at this CPU cooler for the processor:

Akasa AK-920-2 EVO 120 v2

It looks like it will probably cut the mustard for this chip but I can't be sure as there is no CPU rating given, only socket types.

Can anyone confirm this cooler will be ok for the Athlon X2 6000+?

Will be perfect for the cpu.

Sorry to jump in but I also have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+. My RAM is only 667MHz but i have it at 800MHz.

In my bios I have the option to set RAM speed at a maximum of 800MHz (default is 667 of course for the RAM and I think there were only 3 options in total) I left the FSB as 200x15=3GHz. Is it ok to do this? I ran Orthos stress test and it found no errors in the hour or so it ran for. When I look at the memory tab on CPU-Z it says the DRAM freqency is 376.8MHZ..? Should that not be 400MHz as I have set RAM to run at 800MHz?

there is something about the 6000+ that the ram has to run slower than it actually is. i think there is away around it like running a lower multi and overclocking the fsb/htt untill you hit 400mhz. its an odd cpu.

i may be wrong though, i'm still stuck in the 939 era..

Thanks but i'll leave it as it is. As mentioned my RAM is 667 so i'm already running it quicker than it should run and i'm happy with this.
